Is this even allowed at the Olympics?

''Due to antiquated rules, during all IAAF, USOC, and IOC governed competitions, I will be forced to tape over all forms of advertising on my body except the logos of my apparel and equipment manufacturers. Though these absurd rules certainly diminish an investment in an athlete, please know that I will put in extra effort to ensure that the winner of this auction realizes a fantastic return on investment.''
It is sad that runners have to do this to raise money.

If they all have to do it, then why does only one runner do it?
This will be a moot point when Symmonds is fishing instead of running the 800m in Rio.
In his definition of terms section c it reads
"(c) "TATTOO" means a temporary tattoo in the form of a decal or ink impression, not to measure less than nine square inches."
Idiot
Suppose a neonazi group wins and wants him to put a swaztika on there. Or any other unpleasant group/symbol you'd like. What does Nick do?
This is a weird thread. Symmonds is borderline unprofessional. What a joke. Actually getting a lot of bids though.

Symmonds is more successful at raising money.
Seems pretty smart to me. He knows he won't be relevant forever. Gotta make that money while you can.
I back this sort of idea. This should be allowed in at least diamond leagues.
Other racing sports like Formula 1 and Superbike plaster their racers with logos and they rake in the money compared to these poor runners.
Why shouldn't athletes be allowed to wear a personalized vest in the Diamond League covered in their personal sponsors? This sport needs to get with the times. It would have the dded bonus of not seeing 10+ purple Nike vests in one race.

And an additional 8 ever so slightly more leaning towards blue-ish Adidas vests that are all but indistinguishable on tv coverage...

As much as Coe has fallen out of favour on this board, I do believe he is the man to try and change this.
During his own athletic career he was a force in trying to bring professionalism into the sport and moving away from amateurism (and 'shamateurism'). Eventually he helped to achieve this.
Coe recognises that sport is a product that has to adapt to the market to sell and therefore be popular and grow. There is no other major sport in the world that takes the insane stance that athletics does.
Cycling has been transformed and athletics can too. I see no reason why individuals who train extremely hard and make big sacrifices in their lives to become champions and achieve great things in the sport cannot be rewarded financially too. I see no reason why athletics as a sport cannot open itself to much wider sponsorship from a range of partners that just want to see their logos on TV and in the papers.
Sport is entertainment, we all enjoy watching it and therefore are 'consuming' the product that it is. The sport should be rewarded financially in return. It is simply capitalism.

Only Nike and other corps should be allowed to advertise on athletes.
Heaven forbid athletes profit from their own talents and hard work.
I say Let's Run rallies together, gets a GoFundMe going and buys that 9 square inches and makes it as uncomfortable as possible for him. "Dick Puke" and logo? "Fap Champion 2011" with logo, etc.

1. Swastikas are protected free speech in America. Although the media and the justice system seem to ignore this fact.
2. Why is the swastika effectively forbidden yet we see the Stars and Bars everywhere?

I literally cannot see any real reason athletes should not be allowed to plaster themselves and their vests with their personal sponsors should they want too.
Why anyone is talking about swastikas and pooling together to sabotage Nick's fund raiser is beyond me. He is an honest guy who works hard and wants to make some money from his talents. Is that not the free market capitalism you Americans love?
I'll tell you now, if there was more money in this sport then you'd have a lot more American distance guys like Symmonds running to a high level.
Ahh, Nick "The Chubby Nozzle" Symmonds. Re-asserting his dominance in the field of elite douche-baggery. No 800m titles for him this year, but he will crush the competition as the biggest self-absorbed douche of 2016. How many years in a row now has he claimed the title?
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
