If you can be top 3 in London, you can be top 3 at the Olympics.

Actually agree with tony on this one.
I think this is the most jaw dropping OMFG post in LR history. Incredible.
Here is how to get the first sub 2:00 marathoner:
1) Get Tirunesh Dibaba to divorce Sileshi Sihine.
2) Get Tirunesh Dibaba and Kenenisa Bekele to have children together.
3) Wait about 16 to 20 years while the children build aerobic base from age 2.
4) Renato Canova then takes over coaching for "specific" marathon training.
5) First person on planet earth runs a sub 2:00 marathon.
I think this plan could actually work.

Agreed! Including Kipchoge.
Watch out for Tirunesh Dibaba in the Marathon....in the near future. Her, Bekele, and Kipchoge! They will be the three to watch for the next couple of years.....
I guarantee you that if those 3 people race, Dibaba will go home devastated.

I have absolutely no moral opposition to this idea
Ciao Renato, spero che tu stia bene !
In 2008 Haile Gebre ran the 10000 in Beijing an one month later beat the marathon WR in Berlin. If KB is not selected in the marathon he may have this option in mind. He has an opportunity to beat the WR before Kipchoge lower it to inaccessible level.
But first, KB will have to stay healthy...
Something I do not understand also is why he stopped working with Renato. Because in Chicago 2014 his previous marathon training did not prove to be very successful... So as he is back to his former coach, the efficiency of his coaching is also a big question mark.
That would be Nice if Renato comments on that, if he wishes.
When I told Sileshi Sihine about the plan he absolutely did have moral opposition to the plan. The plan is definitely off the table for now.
He's got some competition:

Wait a second. The sub 2:00 marathon plan may be back on the table. Genzebe Dibaba is not married yet.
Did bekele better the old 30k world best enroute yesterday?
Kipchoge certainly did
Bekele is definitely back and can go 2:02 with full training
I am sorry to be a skeptic here.
But I doubt it did happen.
No way can a human being run a 2:06 with just 7 weeks of real training while having been sidelined for 11 months previously.
Either you exaggerated his injury, or he just had had a much longer training block leading to the marathon.
By the way Renato, what did Kenenissa during his 7 weeks of marathon training exactly? Could you post his training schedule here? Thanks!
I think more importantly is what KB did during the 11 months off running. I have a feeling he did not sit on the couch and eat beer nuts while watching Celebrity Apprentice reruns.
Can Bekele heal and train enough to run the 5K or 10K in Rio?
In his current form, I think he is the best bet to challenge Farah. The other Ethiopian runners can't upend Farah.

You're on the right track. But the kid will need training partners.
3 kids, Bekele + Dibaba / Keitany / Radcliffe.
Kenenisa should run one marathon per year, no more. This is why he has been having these problems.
Renato, he is not a machine to be programmed, his broken body parts can't be replaced. These injuries should never have happened. He was over worked.
Not so long a shot! Assuming,
1) What was said about his preparation for London was even approximately accurate. Three months plus gives him ample time to recover and build up for Rio - assuming he doesn't get injured again in the interim!
2) Rio is not run at such a fast pace from the gun as London - which in a championship race is very unlikely.
3) Given 1) and 2) above, would you feel comfortable with Bekele on your shoulder with 5-10K to go in Rio?
London was a brutal race. It was all about who could survive the early pace and still hold things together over the last 10-15 miles. for most of the leading contenders the wheels had fallen off well before the last 10 miles! Awesome run by the first two home and a very, very solid effort by Bekele. I thought he would completely fall apart, perhaps even DNF once he was dropped by the leading duo. He must have run a hell of a long way on his own?
I still sense that Bekele is a master of understating training levels and overstating injuries. Or perhaps he's just honest, and everyone else is talking bull about their 130 mile weeks and insane intervals.
It definitely doesn't stack up off 11 months off, 7 weeks of specific training to be able to run 2:06 for third. There's more to it than that - he certainly wasn't sat at home playing Xbox for those 11 months.
HOWEVER, if he did wake up today fit and now has 17 weeks to Rio you'd expect someone with this ability to respond to training to demolish the opposition on his way to Olympic gold.
Kipchoge is also a monster talent, almost certainly will break the marathon WR, and has the head start on Bekele with regards to Rio.
