So so true.
I love how XFIT_CLOWN is so much more impressed with Hall now that he has achieved what literally millions of people have achieved (put on some decent muscle mass, and looks pretty good after lifting while flexing and taking a selfie) than he was when Hall accomplished some running achievements that literally .0001% of the population is even capable of and was capable of scaring some of the greatest distance runners on the planet.
Yes, appearance is so much more important that achievement. That sums CULT_FIT 100%.
Neither is at all "important" in any sense of the word. Get some perspective.
He doesn't just look better, my guess (from personal experience) is that he feels better too. I was no Ryan Hall (3:52 1500), but was still an decent runner at 6'1" tall and at the time 120 pounds. I cringe now when I look at photos of me back then. Sure, I could chat comfortably at 5:30 pace, but I looked like hell, often felt like hell and could have gotten my ass kicked by most anyone's kid sister. My nickname? Twig. Fast forward a number of years and I carry 195 pounds around. Have not met a single person who told me I looked better before. Not one. Chicks? I'm considered attractive now. I was considered "sickly" back then. Can I run as fast? Nope. Hell, I wouldn't even call it running. On the other hand I gave up chasing the Kenyans long ago when all I could catch was the women. I look better, feel better and don't blow over in a strong wind. I ran decent times, have nothing to prove and went on with my life. Hall is just doing the same thing. He can rest on his laurels, they are some damn good laurels, even if he chooses to plaster them with Monster energy drink decals.

What you describe is bodybuilding.
CrossFit is all about PERFORMANCE. How strong, how fast, how explosive. Basically the decathlon translated to the 21st century, but more modern. And more interesting. And not as lame.
That you get BUFF, SWOLE, RIPPED, YOKED, JACKED, SHREDDED (pick your favorite), is just a side effect of CrossFit. A nice one though.
Actually I DO get it 100%. What YOU described is yes, what crossfit PRETENDS to be (about PERFORMANCE). But in reality, all they ever talk about is what you always talk about:
Looking "BUFF, SWOLE, RIPPED, YOKED, JACKED, SHREDDED."
And this also explains why they workout without shirts and constantly snap photos of themselves and each other and then post on the web every 5 seconds. (and most of course don't even look particularly fit)
Sure they are brainwashed into thinking they are great athletes too, but that's just a cover for their real goal: physical appearance, and convincing themselves they are "BADA$$ WARRIORS!!" and that they are "KILLING IT!!!" and they "TOTALLY ROCKED THE WORKOUT " , etc, etc (insert macho catch-phrase or slogan)
Why do we have to hate on people who like different things? If you like Xfit, do Xfit. If you like running, run. Stop following the people on Facebook if you don't want to see their photos. Christ, life isn't all about complaining on internet message boards. Get a life, both of you.

POTD
T-Rex is probably super SCRAWNY and ashamed of himself when he sees pictures of BUFF guys lifting HEAVY WEIGHTS. I don't blame him, I just wish he'd shut up.
Ginger Runner is barely tolerable but he had Ryan Hall on his show a few weeks ago so I listened and Hall talks about what he is doing now. He talks about his weight workouts a little bit.
its incredibly lame. so you lost me on everything else. enjoy your reeboks.

Which Kenyan woman did a 3:52?

Look at this for example. You got the strongest athlete known to mankind, yet he looks really good, too.

More modern? Don't you mean more primitive?

great and really honest post. Well done!
"Where have you been? Prison?"
Is what his barber asked him.
He has definitely outgrown his skinny jeans.
It isn't hard to put on muscle when you quit running. I put on about 12 pounds of muscle with no fat when I quit lifting and just took my hard work to the gym. And I was still doing a lot of riding 80:00 at 250-350w 4-5 days a week (lost it again when I cut my lifting to ride more). The running/cardio itself is catabolic. The same lifting you make no gains on while running will lead to gains as soon as you quit running so damn much.
It happens to thousands of skinny runners every year. They take a break, start doing weights and/or body weight resistance training, start receiving compliments, and it's addictive. Suddenly they realize that being a stick and running a 15-16 minute 5k is important to one person in the world. They enjoy the attention of looking better physically, and enjoy the workouts a helluva lot more than slogging away for an hour a day.
I too like the new Ryan Hall.
Definitely looks better.
I like runner guys but a little muscle here and there doesn't hurt. ;-)
Just FIY:
I no longer train Ryan Hall. After trained, he go back to faith based approach. So now, running 3x30min, but week, not day. So run is very little but he press bench, lift squat and dead. He may comeback, but shorter distance running, like sprint running. Probably hobby level, maybe more.
Your whole crossfit body worship is lame. I'm willing to bet that most runners here on LR would give their left nut to be as fast as Asbel Kiprop, and the body that goes with it.
Kiprop would be lucky to be twice as fast as me, I still have both nuts, and have a body worth considerably more than barely holding a bib in place.

Brian Lawlor said on Twitter today that he's heading back to the gym to put back on the 25 lbs of muscle he's lost in the past 6 months. Good idea. He ran the Boston course in 2:31 six months ago and 4 hours this week, so maybe putting that 25 lbs of muscle back on will get him back to his sub 4 miles.

Lance Armstrong tried that and it did not work at all.

I was with you there on performance until you compared it to decathlon. Decathlon has track and field events that involve running and jumping whereas CrossFit is who can exercise the best.
Crossfit is about performance, but you are the one who is always posting on how good they look and how hot Rich Froning is with his shirt off and how the sweat drips down his hard, shaved, perfect body... Not that there's anything wrong with that, but you are the one who always makes it about looks.
