My first time watching Mt. SAC, and I really expected to see a much bigger crowd presence. Several years of meet hype and other info seeping out to the east coast (where I am) convinced me this was really a jewel of a meet - beyond the on-track performances. Being a long time veteran of the Penn Relays, and the huge crowds drawn there, I was expecting something more.
For Mt. SAC veterans, was this a typical year, both on the track, and for fan attendance in the stands?
It probably did not help that there were 4 other notable meets on the same day. The meet was missing a lot of high profile pro athletes, the types like Ajee, Rupp, Centro and Gatlin for example that would have drew a few more people. Also, the stadium looked big, the numbers could have been higher than you think. Nowadays, to get the big crowds, you need to do more than host a straight up track meet. The Penn Relays for example is a carnival, although I think their numbers will be down this year as well because of the focus being on Rio.
