I got my butt kicked by Wilhelm multiple times by his dad, Wilhelm, in SoCal road races. Good guy. Glad to see his son running so well.

I don't think you know the definition of "racist"
Not based off of his race at all - but how old is he? Meaning did he redshirt?

19 yrs old. This is his 2nd year of college. Redshirted entire true frosh year
I agree that doping is not good, and cheating has no place in the sport, but Ridouane Harroufi - Morocco - has served his time, and it might be wise to give him a second chance. It looks like he wants to get back on track in a legitimate way. Remember - Harroufi comes from a very under privileged background, and used to be a shoe shine boy - in the central square (La Place Centrale) in Morocco. He also used to sell cigarette pieces, going from cafe to cafe, to earn a few dhirram, to help his voluminous family (extended family), Again, not condoning what he did, but just putting things into perspective. If you look at the Moroccan website - yabiladi.com - you will find more information on this case.
Morocco, is now really under the loop, and everyone is controlled all the time. For example, Abderrahim Bouramdane, the great marathon runner (4th in Daegu WC in 2011) was suspended for two years in October 2015, following irregularities in his Bio Passport. His 4th place in Daegu has now been annuled, as it should be.
Many other Moroccans have been caught for doping. Adil Kaouch, 2nd in the Worlds in 2005 - 1500, Abderrahim Goumri, 2:05.30 in 2008, banned in 2012, and tragically died in car accident in 2013, which was a National Mourning in Morocco for this legendary, great athlete.
Other sanctions in Morocco, include Mariem Selouli suspended for 8 years for the use of furosemide, Halima Haclaf and also Khadija Sammah, winner of the French National short course cross country championships in 2014.
Others who have also been punished include - most often for EPO use - Yayha Behhabah, Abderrahim El Asri, Nadia Noujani. In the case of the use of CERA - Abdelkrim Boubker. In the case of testosterone use - Mohammend El Mounim and Mouna Tabsart. Tabsart gets a very heavy sentence of 8 years - which, in effect, kills this athlete's career, as it is so long. Tabsart got the drastic verdict and sentence, because it was a second time violation of the doping rules.
The point of all this is that one can see that the Moroccan Federation is really on top of things, and it is now extremely unlikely for an athlete in Morocco to get away with doping.
Now, I can only hope that Kenya Federation get on top of things to comply with Coe's request for more transparancy in the doping control areas, so that Kenya can take part in Rio, otherwise, the Games would be seriously damaged and devalued, because I am convinced that the Kenyan elites are clean. Kenya needs to be in Rio, otherwise the Games will become somewhat farcical.
Ghost in China
Well okay then, ghost
I heard that she was good in Precious. Must have dropped a ton of weight to get to the mid 13s. That is fast!
Basketball and Football used to be dominated by whites for decades before African Americans increased participation and just out-competed whites in most positions (for non US readers: NBA and NFL in the US is dominated by black athletes - very few non-black athletes play these sports at the professional or collegiate levels).
Same can be said for Sprinting and Field events. Isn't it just natural evolution for US distance running to go this route? There are many of naturalized East Africans citizens/legal aliens who can compete for top spots.
Frankly - I can think of only one distance that Africans haven't "invaded" and that would be UltraRunning. One could say the great white flight is happening now to the longer Ultra Distances - as it did from sprinting to distance events decades ago.
thoughts?
Wtf are you idiots talking about? This is not the thread to discuss the extensive history of Moroccan doping bans or racial topics.
How 'bout we talk about Sydney and put his performance in perspective!
Not a lot of 19 year olds have run this fast in the college system. The ones that have are usually pretty big names.
This board is awful! This is supposed to be a thread about a great performance from a D2 freshman. This guy took down some serious D1 talent in the fastest time in college this year (any division). That's crazy!!! How is this thread so off topic?
Great job Sydney! I remember losing to you in a road 5K a few years ago in Orange County and thinking about how fast you would get with more experience and competition. It's been really cool to watch you do the things you have. Congratulations!

This is Letsrun.com, not a hand holding hobby jogger forum, and with that comes a lot of insidious BS from the trolls.
That said, great race. And wondering where it stands all time for freshman and 19 year olds in the US/NCAA. German Fernandez went faster but there haven't been many others.
Chris Derrick was 18 when he ran 13:29. Sydney is in great company and the season is young.

I've just given up, and it was my own thread. Don't fight the trolls
Awesome performance from a hard-working, gutsy, gracious competitor. Way to go, Sydney!
He has a big set of cods on him. Big swollen blue balls.

Yeah, it's one thing to get pulled to a fast time, it's another thing to get the win against a bunch of college veterans. Got the killer instinct. And with Adams State no-gimmicks training behind him I think he will continue improving an be scary good in a few years
Great kid. He said the pace was a bit erratic. More to come....Much more.

yes, and as alluded to earlier (which I know you quoted, but the time was not listed) German ran 4 secs faster than that when he was 18, the same season as Derrick.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
