I was talking to a friend of mine today and mentioned I had to go to "hot yoga". He nearly fell out of his chair and then said "how about you post that on you forums?".
So I am posting.
So far so good, seems great for my core and flexibility.
Until 2 weeks ago I didn't know what hot yoga was.
I was just trying to do regular yoga and called the two yoga places closest to me. The hot yoga place called me back.
And I know none of you were in my class today because I was the only male.
I'm doing hot yoga: discuss

What is hot yoga? Someone explain what the point of it is?
-
What are the benefits of hot yoga compared to a normal yoga class? I've never tried it because it seems gross and useless.
Have you tried Pilates? I like it much better than yoga. -
Any instagram selfies to share? Did you stop for froyo after?

Hot yoga is supposed to 1) be a cardiovascualr benefit because of the heat; 2) make you more flexible than you would otherwise be; and 3) release toxins through sweat.
These are mostly BS reasons, and are mostly to get girls/guys to think they are doing more of a workout than they actually are doing because they are sweating more. Although there is some science behind just heat cardio and you are able to stretch more in a hot room than a cold room, but in some ways it's not a good thing because you can stretch to much. You should be generating your own heat.
There is regular hot yoga and bikram yoga which has a specific sequence of poses you do and unlike most yoga has mirrors.
I like yoga as a relaxing counterbalance to running. I don't use it as a workout, but as an escape. It's also fun to try and do some of the tricks. I did not like doing hot yoga as I thought I was just going to die in there (as I'm usually a little dehydrated and running hot from the daily running I do and sweating profusely in regular yoga). -

Pilates is like how hot yoga used to be. I have no idea what Pilates is.
I have no idea why they need to heat the room. From what i can tell to sweat out toxins. The heat makes it more of a workout
Mine is like 90 degrees. Some supposedly are hotter. I think of myself as a fit individual and am surprised they heat it over 100 as I figure the average person could get in some serious trouble. -

The girls that post on here could have fooled you. -
You can't sweat out toxins. I hope that helps.

I see. So it's a bunch of hot air, but it allows people to blow off some steam? -
Isn't hot yoga just called yoga in Texas?
Hot yoga is actually passé. Now it's all about rage yoga. http://www.medicaldaily.com/yoga-poses-swear-words-screaming-beer-381496 -

All the girls that post here were in the class... that is NONE. -
Be careful else all the sweat and heat will cause a yeasty in your lady parts.
-
Hot yoga really isn't much of a novelty, fyi.
-
Seems to be a fad and possibly dangerous
-
isn't it warm to warm up your muscles, reduce injury risk
Is it more expensive than regular yoga? Someone has to pay those heating bills. -
