The only science you need to know is that if you run a crap load of miles and try not to hammer your easy stuff, you'll have the best chance of finding your potential.
Once again, runners are not houses, therefore there is no need to build a "base"
There's a contingent on this site that do not believe in "talent" but it exists. Ever hear about how some fball players never work out but are still strong as hell? The same thing goes for runners. Some people are just born darned good at it, training just makes them great.
