Ryun was far from a top 10 guy in cross, and never broke 9 minutes for 2 miles in high school. I think his best was 9:13, and Slagowski ran 9:14 a year ago.
Ryun was certainly an 800/mile type, but I hope you realize Ryun ran his 9:13 2-mile when 8:40x was world class. By todays standards, his 9:13 2-mile is equal to low 8:50s. He was certainly much better in the at shorter distances, but Ryun was good 2-miler and was good at cross country as well.
