And the only question our man on the ground in Kenya has is, who gets 1 and who gets 2?
It should be a fun year.

Damn. That's seriously the biggest compliment an American distance runner can get haha
THIS is quality stuff. Thanks for making it happen.
Jager proved in Paris he can win an Olympic Gold in a fast race. But he has to have the mental fortitude to make it a fast race. If he take the typical American attitude of "I wont do anything gutsy, I'll hang with the Kenyans and hope to kick with them and snag a medal" he'll finish 5th/6th. If he runs for gold in a fast race, he can do it.
for anyone to write off Kemboi and Kipruto jr. is a big mistake.
While it is super cool to see Birech having this much respect for Jager, it won't happen. After watching him get dominated in last years championship and his poor indoor season, I am predicting a 5th-7th place finish for Jager.

Every heard of Pre? Jager's the closest thing we've had to him in years, dude has guts. Bet he runs the 3000 steeple on pure hate and wins it in 7:52.xx.
In all seriousness though, I'm sure he's not slacking on the pace work right now in case it is a slow race. You have to remember, he was the fastest American 1500m runner last year and he doesn't specialize in the 1500m.

I said something similar to Canova regarding Evan, but he explained to me that neither Jairus nor Jager is lacking in pace. Their weakness, he claims, is the ability to change pace. Quick acceleration is not the same as top-end speed.
Kemboi is in a league of his own when it comes to the ability to accelerate during a steeplechase. To beat him, you have to turn the race into a test of speed-endurance, not quickness.

Especially Conseslus Kipruto for me. He's proven to be the only one who can hang with Kemboi's kick and if that injury hadn't thrown off his development, I believe he'd have won gold last year. Watch out for the kid this year.
Birech and Jager will take it out hard, but I don't think they'll be dropping Kemboi and Kipruto.

No, no, no this is all wrong. Kemboi's advantage has to do with his superior ankle speed velocity....and his sick-@ss dance moves.

How is his indoor season "poor"?
Jager is probably gonna get injured and never get near sub 8 again, just like Conseslus and Benabbad. Once you make that breakthrough into superhuman territory, watch out. Shit goes wrong.
That's a strong assertion considering he wasn't even our top steepler at worlds last year. While I totally believe in Evan's potential, and hope to see him medal. Saying the only way he doesn't finish top four is injury, just hasn't proved to be the case in his career thus far.

So when i first read your thread, I thought you were talking about Birech, not Jager.
Your post is laughable. Jager only gets 5th - 7th if he's hurt (and he was indoors so that's a possibility) or has an awful day. Here are things you need to remember.
1) At the Olympics, Kenya only gets 3 entrants. Not 4. The rest of the world besides Keny and Jager shouldn't be a threat to Jager if he's on his game. The fastest non-Kenyan in the world last year was Evan Jager at 8:13.
2) Jager ran 7:40 indoors after missing a month. He's in plenty good shape for August assuming the injury doesn't come back.
I'm willing to do more than predict. Email me if you want to bet. Straight up. I take top 4, you get everything else. I'm willing to say your bet might be the smart one just due to injury concerns but oh well.

Evan Jager ran 8:00 last year. And he finished 6th at WCs, beaten by some non-Kenyan, so it seems pretty reasonable he would end up around that again.
Read to me like the guy was just being polite to the American reporter.
Neither wins gold. I'll be surprised in Jäger medals. Hope he can prove me wrong.
I don't see anybody beating Kemboi if he's in decent shape in Rio.
The only way Birech or Kipruto can beat him is by making the pace extremelly hard from the gun!
And they won't make it THAT hard from the get-go!
the problem is that kemboi is just TOO DAMN GOOD at championship races. I firmly believe he's the best championship racer in all of track and field.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
