It would be a kick in the ass is Jenny got a medal in the steeple and Coburn gets 4th.
End of the day, Jenny isn't even the fastest American running at the trials. Coburn has barely run faster than what Simpson ran 7 years ago.

Obviously the steeple is very different from a 5k, but you could argue that Jenny, at 30, would be "moving up" by running the steeple, and that her massive improvements in 1500m speed could help drop her steeple PR.
Right. I totally agree that "Quite good is not enough to medal at the olympics," but I was being slightly facetious. She was never an AVERAGE steepler, she was VERY good, very strong and was fifth in Berlin behind drug-girl Dominguez, 2 Russian chicks and Chelimos. Considering the state of things, she COULD have been the very best in that field (I am one of those that does believe that Simpson is clean). I would ALSO bet that Simpson hasn't lost much strength in the last few years. Wetmore, like Salazar and his athletes, wouldn't put Simpson in a steeple unless she was ready to roll.
"Massive improvements"? She ran 3:59 in college.

I will believe Dibaba doesn't do the 1500 when it happens. I have no idea why she would volunteer to run an event (5000) where she was beaten at Worlds last year and isn't as prestigious as the event where she is the reigning golg medallist and world record holder.
If Jenny wins steeple gold, do I get credit? I've been hyping that for the last year.

I completely agree!

As I finished up my workout at CU's track this morning, Wetmore was having Coburn, Simpson, and a couple other women I didn't recognize do a tempo with several hurdles around the track. Water pit was prepped (didn't see anyone hurdle it though).
... Think Simpson could be switching back to the steeple??
Thoughts. This could be a move to avoid Dibaba in the 1500.
BS. Simpson isn't even in boulder this week, according to her twitter

In Ethiopia it may be that the 5,000M is the prestigious event and not the 1,500M. Also, she is so far ahead of the other women in the 1,500 that it doesn't challenge her...and it probably irks her that she was beaten by Ayana.

Not "may be", it is. Their idols are Bikila, Geb, and Bekele... not freakin' Bannister and Coe They care about the 5000, 10000, and marathon.

I didn't watch. Couldn't be any less interested.
Everyone knew those Chinese women in the 90s were doped. No one ever doubted it or second guessed it. It was openly and widely discussed for two decades.
Then comes along Dibaba, smashes those commie times, and we're supposed to believe its real?
Couldn't be less interested.
I'm so not interested, that I've already posted here several times.
We seen her twice this week, once at boulder res.
Another along boulder creek,
At the res. With Emma and Kara
Boulder creek, Jenny and emma. There were others running with them, but did not recognize. At the res. WWitmore, was thete

Actually it pretty much places her in Boulder.
At the World Championships last summer the three medalists all broke 2 minutes over the final 800 meters of the race. Neither Simpson nor Rowbury has ever broken 2 minutes in an open 800, so that had to get them both thinking about potential alternative events. Rowbury ran the 3K at World Indoors instead of the 1500, so she might be considering the 5K outdoors.
Simpson ran 3:59 in the 1500 in college off of steeplechase training, so no real downside to exploring the idea other than a little higher risk of injury. But speed training for the 1500 can also heighten injury risk.
Ya, and you'll probably be forced to slog around Fairview now...

If we assume Jenny is a lock to make the Olympic team in the steeple and assume that Coburn is a lock to make the Olympic team in the steeple, who is the 3rd woman? Garcia ran the 2nd fastest U.S. time last year. Quigley and O'Connor are running their first year as pros, Higginsen seems to be fit.
Shalaya Kipp made the 2012 Olympic team and still trains with Simpson and Coburn. She was going to have her work cut out for her anyways, but if her training partner Simpson decides to do the steeple I'd say that's almost a guarantee she's off the team this year. She hasn't had a PR since 2012 and the steeple has only gotten more competitive.
That has to be the weirdest dynamic between those 3 women. Simpson could be taking a medal shot away from Coburn and an Olympic birth away from Kipp.
I don't buy it. Simpson is going to do the 1500.

5th is not as good as 1st
She's a miler

That suggests Kip is pregnant. Or perhaps you meant that Simpson would take away her Olympic berth.
