As I finished up my workout at CU's track this morning, Wetmore was having Coburn, Simpson, and a couple other women I didn't recognize do a tempo with several hurdles around the track. Water pit was prepped (didn't see anyone hurdle it though).
... Think Simpson could be switching back to the steeple??
Thoughts. This could be a move to avoid Dibaba in the 1500.
Jenny Simpson just did a Steeple workout

Dibaba is not running the 1500. Steeple seems weaker, though.

Could just be keeping their options open. Doing a little steeple-specific work over the season really won't hold her back in the 1500, so nothing to lose.
It could even be just to break up the monotony of training. -

I think that might just be talk. It's surprising to me that the WR holder doesn't want to back up their times with Olympic gold. So Simpson might be 70% sure that Dibaba isn't doing the 1500, but she's 100% sure Dibaba won't touch the steeple. -
BTW - you don't just do a steeple workout if you're not planning to run a steeple or if you are seriously contending for the 1500m medals. It's way too much of a risk to injure yourself.
My guess is she is going to do both events for the Oly Trials and decide later which one she wants to do (or both) for olympics. End of the day - you have to pick the event that will give you best chance at a medal. -
I really hope she does switch to steeple this year. I think that is still her best event. She is almost a lock for a medal in Rio if she does decide to switch. Anyone if the double in 1500m and steeple is even possible.

Why not? Rowbury and the rest of the 1500 are doped to the gills. Find a new hobby.
That's a good idea because the steeple is clean. -

No one does steeple work unless they plan to run the event. -
Tempo over hurdles is a horrible idea, period.
That said, obviously she is preparing for the steeple and not just doing that for a fun workout. Too much risk of injury to do it on a lark or to keep Emma company alone. -

The key word in my statement is 'ALMOST', obviously nothing is certain. -
At close to 30, this is probably Simpson's last legitimate chance to win an Olympic medal. It's likely no American woman wins a medal at 1500m Dibaba or no Dibaba and Simpson is no longer even the top American.

She's not doubling. Schedule in Rio for a double would be:
Aug 12 - 1500 First round
Aug 13 - 3000 SC First Round
Aug 14 - 1500 Semifinal
Aug 15 - 3000 SC Final
Aug 16 - 1500 final
She hasn't run the steeple since 2009. -
Dafne Schippers will will the 1500.
-
By the way, Simpson had gapped everyone by several meters.

The poster said double at Olympic Trials and then decide. Not double at Rio. No one in their right mind would double 1500 and steeple! Has anyone done that before in recent championships? Guys on my team did the 10k/steeple and steeple/5k at conference. Rough. -
Dibaba is the dirtiest athlete of her generation. No one has any hope of winning gold against her.
-
Simpson, Coburn + Kipp most likely.
Kip ran 3k under 9 indoors twice this year.
obviously not over barriers. -

Almaz Ayana already beat her in the 5000m at last year's Worlds. -
Steeple is clean based on what? ...that splashes from the water jump wash anything dirty off?
