You're both ridiculous. The number is clearly 28:32.77, of course!

I hope this is true. I watched him all through high school and always felt the 10k was his event. His high school coaches felt the same way.
German has run 10k before. 30:53 on grass.

But if you follow GF's social media, it's now obvious he's been pointing toward this for a while, since he's been up in Flagstaff longer than the other track guys, and didn't run indoors.
It says nothing at all about his confidence. Maybe he wasn't planning on doing the race or maybe he was thinking about doing a different meet on the same weekend. There's are plenty of explanations that have nothing to do with confidence.
What other meets that weekend would he possibly have been considering?
Do you think Jerry, a coach who has people hardly ever race, would throw him in on a whim?

I have no idea and neither do you. It's track season. There are usually several meets happening every weekend. Who said anything about Jerry throwing him in on a whim?
Good heavens, what a blunder on my part. I stand corrected.

Someone brought up the fact that Fernandez did not appear in the published entries. If he entered after the deadline, isn't that somewhat of a whim?
early April Fool's joke?!

I think the real discussion here is, how does this guy still have a job? How many years of not producing the goods can he get away with before Nike says enough is enough?
It's a shame because great athletes who actually produce results are dropped all the time, yet he still collects a paycheck. Not saying that he isn't talented, but you've gotta produce some results to defend the investment a sponsor has made in you. And no, I don't mean just putting down a flash in the pan effort once a year at a meet that doesn't really matter. I mean winning titles and making teams.
INCOMING SUB 28:15!!!
1
He will run user th eOT time and may even get close to an Olympic standard which will cause these boards to blow up saying how he now has a shot at a medal in Rio and then he will either get hurt in the build up to the OT's ro will drop out/get dropped by the leaders at the OT's by 2 miles
Yea, we get it. Unfortunately, he still has the name. He was extremely good in Hs and beginning of college (broke records, won titles as you say). So no matter what athletes play "catch up" later in their career, he will always have those accomplishments and a well known name. I mean look how excited many of us get to hear he is racing and potentially in killer shape?

"early April Fool's joke?!"

Part of me is a bit cynical - Well, if this is yet another BS text or if he actually does show up and plays the "pace-boy", I wont believe it until I see it! He's absolutely more than capable - but races so infrequently, I wonder if he's stable enough physically to do the business on this one. This guy seems like 'glass' and re-injures himself by just looking in the mirror. We'd all love to see this and hope he does really, really well but I'm not holding my breath. If he's training with 'Jerry's Group' why are all his buddies always racing? Is he not doing the same volume and sessions or does he just hang out, work for them as a tool and then collect his check? It's time for him to take control of his running himself and turn this 'thin chance in hell' into something REAL, something worthy of his TRUE TALENT. He's got a tremendous amount of mental structural integrity to hang in there for this long, without tasting directly the fruits of his labors. He's done a 10k on the road with Vail back in college and of course during College X, but I think this will be the first time officially on the track for him (?)
I think a lot of people here forget just what a talent he is. If he is healthy and fit, there are very few people who can compete with him over any distance.
In all seriousness, I think he wins this race. Not expecting a crazy time, as unless there are more entries coming that aren't currently on the accepted entries list, I don't think there is anyone really looking for a time much below the Olympic standard.
Go German!
I've been a big German fan since his high school days. I'm hoping that he does well, expecting under 29:00

He has a job due to the fact that he and his employer have an agreement in place.
/End of Real Discussion
The date, April 1, makes one wonder. Of course, this was a guy who could reasonably be predicted to challenge American records at every distance from 1500m up, if he could stay healthy. He couldn't, of course, but who else ran 3:55i, 7:47i (while sick), 13:25 as an 18 year old freshman and then popped a 3:34 in Europe after his senior year on a few months of health?
Moving up in distance is the last move of a desperate runner. See Solinsky.
You guys who think it might be an April Fools joke realize how f*cking stupid that would be? Like what exactly would the joke be? A runner said he was doing a race that he actually wasn't doing? Wow he sure got us!

No the real joke would be if he has been trolling everyone for the past 5 years and goes out and solos 26:30.
