Seems like Hill is capable of running 12:55 in a fast Diamond League race this year. Unless we're talking about Ryan Hill Hall
Just out of curiosity, what makes you think that? I don't mean to slight Hill, but his resume in terms of pb's from 1500 to 5000 doesn't approach Rupp right now, and we know Rupp is stuck at 12:58. Even if you put Rupp at 12:52 or so, which many of us think he should have done, especially in one of those old 12:46 or 12:48 race that never seem to come around any more, based on 1500, mile, 3000 and two mile, Rupp is on another pleateau. That is no diss on Hill, it just is what it is. He seems stuck at 3:37-3:38 for 1500, has not pb's at 1500 or 3000 since 2014 (indoors or outdoors). He did pb at 5000 last summer which is promising, but if you look at Rupp or Solinsky in his prime, you were seeing marked improvement at several distances.
Granted there is a difference, he seems just to race to win and doesn't do too many races where he is really stretched out. This is a bit like Wheating and Rupp back in the college days, where many knew they could run faster when they got into European races, but he is a pro now and has been for a few years. I wouldn't bet against another 5K pb, but I'd be surprised if it's 10 seconds. In a fast race, I'd still see Rupp and probably True ahead of him and neither of them have done 12:55 yet.
