get it right: Should Molly Huddle OF been DQ'd?
Jeez
You call other posts dumb then throw this out there "Molly sensed Chepkirui coming up on her side".
The epitome of dumb. Did you talk to Molly? How do you know what Molly sensed at the finish line? All of your opinion is based solely on a made up pretense.
There is a process for 'drawing the line' that you want. We have race officials and a protest process. Let the officials draw the line. If they fail to, then the athlete can protest. Did that happen?
When people are racing there is often contact. Happens all the time. Are you going to DQ everyone that makes contact? Sounds exciting. The next time you call someone else dumb try to use post with at least a little bit of intelligence.

Then again, fanboy here is apparently on a first-name basis with "Molly" and can't even bother with "The Kenyan"'s name. His conclusion is no surprise.
If the tables were turned and Molly ran up beside someone (which she does a lot, coming closer than this, see XC vids above) and got arm-barred by The Kenyan, fanboy would be calling for a DQ.
She tried to do the same to Infeld at WC, pointlessly drifting into lane 2 (trying to block and overshooting), and got burned. Now she added the arm-bar to the drift. Seems like a theme here. Maybe she should work on just finishing.
Did 'The Kenyan' protest?
Maybe she knows something that you don't.
Okay, I'll play again. Yes, I'm well aware that there is incidental contact in track and road races all the time. No, I do not suggest that people should be DQ'd as a result of that. O'Hare pushed Andrews from behind in the 1500m final yesterday. Incidental contact brought on apparently by a need to regain his balance. No harm no foul. My argument from viewing the NYV half video is that this was a deliberate attempt on Huddle's part to try to impede the progress of the runner coming up beside her, by holding out her left arm and moving to her left. This isn't incidental contact; it looks like a deliberate attempt to stop from being passed just before the finish line. And I don't think this caused any harm, in that it doesn't look like it changed the final result. I think Huddle still would have won. But in the closing moments it looks like she stretched out her arm to prevent another runner passing her.No, I haven't interviewed Huddle to ask her what she sensed or what she was thinking at the time. But if you think that this amounts to "incidental contact" or is just part of racing then yes, I think your opinion is dumb.

At the NYC Half, she ran an American record for a women-only half marathon, but did she obstruct her competitor at the finish line? http://www.runnersworld.com/elite-runners/molly-huddle-scores-a-record-and-a-win-with-a-dose-of-controversy
So you are allowed to make up BS to base your statements on but call other's opinions dumb.
Yep, typical LR poster.
In sharing my opinion on an anonymous message board I don't think I made anything up; I did call someone else's opinion dumb. If you're really that bothered by it I'm not sure this is the place for you.

Back in the day I was running a couple of races against a team that would box out other athletes, which to their credit made them harder to beat and is not against any rules. At the end of races they would be in lane 1 and almost 2 with arms flailing, elbows jabbing so as to make runners coming from behind go to lane 3.
Personally, I just rant through their arms. I imagine that Joyce could have done the same.
Wow. That looks bad. From all of the glowing praise of Molly on twitter, I had no idea that she finished in this manner.
I agree with other posters that posited that had it been the non-American that finished in that way then people would be demanding a DQ.
Her claim of trying not to fall makes no sense. Her left arm was outstretched for a long time.
Is NYRR actually looking into this? I like Molly and think she's an incredible athlete, but I don't think it's okay for ANYONE to win in this way.

The side angle replay is the worse one for Huddle:
I'm a big fan of Huddle - but she screwed up here.
There's no question in my mind that when she felt Chepkirui close to her at the finish:
1) She veered left into Chepkirui's path
2. Threw out her left arm in an attempt to impede Chepkirui
I'm not certain it affected the race finish order - I think she (Molly) would have won anyhow, based on their relative speeds at the finish line. But it was not a good look from a sports etiquette / ethics point of view. Not at all.
Also, anyone who claims that "it was just Molly celebrating" is lying to themselves at a minimum. It's OK to admit your sports heroes have faults.
A protest would be financial suicide.
A East African that has no following in the US would be foolish to protest an American sweetheart on US soil. Especially when the NYRR will pay more in appearance fees than any other race.
A protest would of cost thousands of dollars in future earnings.
Remember this.

No lawsuit. When Chicago was definitely liable. Why? Future earning. Frederico Rosa (his agent) told the press that there wouldn\'t be any lawsuit within minutes of the fall.
Disgruntled athletes do not make money in road racing. This effects the athlete, the agent, the coach, and future athletes.
From Runner's World:
"Chepkirui, second to Huddle for the second-straight year, gave no indication that she felt Huddle’s apparent stiff-arm had cost her the win. “I’m happy for my friend,†she said."
Classy on Joyce's part.

Maybe she wasn't....you know...actually impeded. that's the second part of the rule people do NOT read.

In addition. New York wants Molly to debut in New York in November so bad that they will do just about anything to make that happen. A DQ was NOT possible. The NYRR Half is simply a recruiting tool for the real race in November.
I wonder if Molly has peripheral vision impairment. It would explain her WC finish as well as here: she was operating on the braille system.
Huddle was swinging her arms. The fact that some other runner got hit in her swing is the other runner's fault and problem. No issue here.
But in the video it's very clear that she STOPS swinging her left arm, instead holding it steady, outstretched to the left ahead of Chepkirui. Regardless of your opinion as to whether or not what she did was unethical, deliberate, worthy of a DQ, likely to have changed the final results, are you really unable to see that?Fascinating.
