He still won't get a contract. He beat a bunch of no names that couldn't win a high school state championship. It's great he got a WC medal but no real runner will respect it.

You missed his most important early stat:400m, 46.93, Lakewood (USA), 21.05.2011. 400m indFor comparison, this is 0.75 slower than the 400m PR of the HS record-holder, Michael Granville. With decent training, probably a 1:48-low guy in HS. ASU seems a poor fit: their 400/800 records are 46/1:47 from decades ago; he likely was poorly coached there.

Yea if you understood the knew type of training he was getting before he moved to big bear you would probably understand why he improved so much

In any case a raw talent; seems like he was running 1:48 with no guidance while working Mickey D's. If you think Brenda is doping (I don't), then you will think BB is too.

where does the idea come from that rapid improvement is related to doping?

Because it is extremely abnormal to see a 22 yr old PR by 5 seconds in the 800 in one year.

I also think Brenda is suspect. Her training is more intense then some elite males. And she improved a ton, very quickly.

Small group training by themselves, with a husband-coach that has no fall back plan if Brenda doesn't make money.

Why do you think he has no sponsor? You think all the brands are stupid?

The question is why did he lose eligibility due to poor academics? Was he partying too much? Was he slacking off and not caring about school or running? What was the deal? Brenda seems to get it... dude ran 46 high in high school! With his strong build... Sure, he could easily be doped but there's a plausible explanation for this. Maybe he stopped partying

This is true. I don't know where the idea that improving quickly means an athlete is doping came from. Fast progression is usually a sign that an athlete has talent but previously was trained incorrectly/too little or is young and has been developing. This is an improvement far beyond anything pharmaceuticals can do. There are no drugs that can take you from 1:48 to 1:43 in a year, otherwise everyone would be on them.

He's said in an interview after the Adidas Grand Prix that school just wasn't for him, so he stopped going. All he wanted to do was run, so that's what he did. After personally seeing him run in high school, I would disagree to anyone saying the kid is doping, he's just a monster talent who is tough as nails.

He can hope to get more than Sowinski ($10k/yr + incentive bonus clauses), but I don't see Berian getting more than $15-30k/year even as World Champion in an "obsure" event. He's not tremendously marketable, very tatted up, but seems like a good guy.

I hope he gets more, but the market right now would say otherwise.

He ran 1:43.3 last year and he's the #1 American in an Olympic year. He'll do well, I suspect.

On the other hand you don't see many 22 year olds who haven't run the 800m the previous couple of years. A 47/1:52 guy in HS is the guy you expect to be running 1:44 in 4 years.
