I agree; the 3000m WR is outrageous.

If you think about needing a measurement, Olympic medals seems like a pretty good one - so Lewis would win. Unless he's given them all back and I didn't hear about it?

I don't think it's quite fair to say that Koch and Jarmilla got away with it - everyone who cares knows they were dopers. They still have the records, but they know they have no respect.
But I think FloJo did get away with it - I think most people think she was clean.
T&FN once showed a pair of pix of FloJo, one as a college soph and later in her career, when her muscles just popped.
But I tip my syringe to Lassie Viren, the Lance Armstrong of distance runners.
Blood doping started in northern Europe with bikers and cross-country skiers and moved over the the Flying Finns.
No way guy could get up from the track and win against other world class distance runners.

Sorry JAKIR but Leo Manzano has the real heart of a lion. At the 2012 Olympics Mahkloufi had the heart of a doper. He simply toyed with the best in the world like they were school children in the rounds and in the final.

I agree with others, Makhloufi is just annoying AF
Ramzi is still on the books as the 800/1500 double World Champion of 2005.

Take a look at the progression of world records in all the throwing events from 1959 to about 1975, then pick any name from that period.
Forgot about him, you're dead on with that comment. from that era include Americans Jay Silvester, ? Powell, Mac Wilkins, Brian Oldfield, Al Feurbach and Hal Connolly, who won the oly gold in hammer in 1956 and continued to compete well after who unabashedly admitted to the NY Times that he "had" to do it to be able to compete with the East Germans and Russkies.
Friend of mine at the 72 Oly Trials was in the same dorm as Oldfield and he said the night before the shot final he was in such a 'roid rage that he lifted the concrete filled steel fire door off its hinges and dropped it.

Not to hijack, but do you have any other stories about the 72 trials?
All the top '80's javelin throwers: Roggy, Petranoff, Atwood, etc.

Yes, many. I was there for the whole 10 days. Different time then, you could go anywhere if you acted the par. I put on an Oregon T-shirt and acted like I worked there, gave me access to the infield for the decathlon and the pole vault - sat on the bench with the competitors, talked to them. Vault inner Seagren tells me "watch where my steps are hitting" vs. his tape marker on the runway. "yeah, sure." Watched Pre empty the trash barrels a few days before track events started, guess that was his income, pre-Nike.
Definitely Paula. The only thing more dreadful would have been if Lance had gotten away with it. She puts on a public facade of being sweet and likable but really is just as devilish as Lance.
