There's been speculation that Kenya and even Ethiopia could be banned from Rio. If this happens, does Rupp get silver in the 10k behind Farah and take gold in the marathon?

Farah won't medal this year in the 10k. Rupp will take 3rd.
That's nice.
Nobody cares though

It would appear so. I don't think anyone in Uganda has the talent level of Rupp -- not even Stephen Kiprotich.
If Kenya and Ethiopia are banned, the Japanese women would --destroy-- the field in the 5000 & 10,000.

Remember what Ritz did with Salazar a few months after a marathon. That's right, 12:56, 27:22 in a tactical race at world's, and 60:00 world half bronze.
Why would 'some of his contenders likely be banned?" Please explain the logic behind that statement. There is an ongoing USADA investigation of Rupp's training group. I'd say the odds of anyone being banned above him aren't any greater than him being banned.
I do think marathon training can make people faster - but not at 3k less than 4 weeks later.
That is why you have no clue! Marathon training does not make you faster in anything but the marathon.
Yeah it is me wrote:

Remember, Galen has broken 13 minutes ONCE. Four years ago. Please don't try to compare a 30 year old Galen Rupp to a Ritz who could run 12:56, something Galen somehow managed to avoid doing even in his prime. Also, Ritz was new to Alberto's "magic," while Galen has been receiving these tricks for quite some time, so Galen is not going to improve now.
You truly are clueless. The US has 3-4 other guys who can run 12:58-13:03 currently and Rupp beat all of them at worlds last year after coming back from a hard 10k and a taxing semifinal. It's the same situation as Rowburry with her 3:56. She'd been capable of sub 4 for half a decade at least and then finally got in the right races when things were clicking for her. It was 2014 when Rupp had the best DL season ever at 5k for any US runner, save maybe Lagat. Last summer he barely raced and was probably under some serious stress from the allegations/speculations. This year he looks good so far. I still won't be surprised to see him set the AR before he's done at 5k, similar to what Ritz did. Go longer this year with some marathons, come back next year and race a couple 5ks after a break and coming in mentally fresh for that event. At 7:30 and 26:44 he's certainly had 12:50 in him. Problem is I think he'd need a race like Ritzs set up to do it, and I just see that happening soon.

Ohh yeah, the he said she said between Kara and Alberto is nearly on the same level as what's coming out of Kenya and Ethiopia right now. You are blinded in your bias bud.
OK, well I think the one who needs to get a clue is you. Galen has had MANY opportunities to break 13 minutes and he has done so ONCE. Do you understand what that means? NO, you don't.
You further show your stunning lack of knowledge when you assert that Galen in 2014 had "the best DL season ever at 5k for any U.S. runner, save maybe Lagat."
Ummm, ever heard of Chris Solinksy. In 2010, Chris ran 12:56.66 on June 4th, 12:55.53 on August 6th and 12:56.45 on August 19th.
You need to educate yourself before posting again, little one.
From the way Farah is acting, it is more likely that Rupp will be banned from Rio than Kenya or Ethiopia.

Galen will show up for USA indoors, he is 14 for 15 in terms of US teams he has tried out for

I had to reread your handle. Thought it said COACHdimwit
He's Galen rupp he always races well in big races. He may have had ups and downs but just like the marathon Alberto wouldn't put him in this situation if he wasn't ready
So, how did Chris place in those races?
And before you simple mindedly refer to the times again, let me point out one specific point. Unless someone is going for a WR, diamond league races are about one thing, finishing place.
I DON'T LIKE RUPP
Just not a lovable, approachable, well spoken guy, (if you ever have a chance to meet him) and I think Sal's win at all cost approach has lead to them cheating! I really do .and They may have been "legal" in all they have done but still cheating by abusing the rule book using everything not banned (and perhaps some that are )
BUT!!!!!!!!!
Lets get behind Rupp for a min
WHY >>>>>>
We bitch all day long about our best athletes, Because we want more from them .....
Well Rupp is giving us exactly that..... and you are still bitching!!!
Stop it for 1 min .....
he is doing something radical
he is doing something risky
he is doing something important to himself
he is doing it for you !!!!
As mentioned in other posts
who else has done this (none or very few )
might this backfire (yes it might )
is it a wise safe decision (NO NOT AT ALL )
Can you see he is one of the US's best athletes and trying to represent our country (that means our best representing YOU!!!!)
We praise Prefontaine for that radical risky spirit why are we condemning Rupp for a similarly radical risky approach ?????
so please support him , you don't have to live him, i don't , but lets support the best we have , and he is undeniably one of the very best we have ,
Are you suggesting that brojos troll the $hit out of their own message board?
Surely not?
I have to add to the notion that Galen Rupp is OUR best U.S. athlete and we are constantly trying to find ways of tearing him down.
Add me to the list that will push for him and cheer him on 100% of the way. they havent broken rules as far as I am concerned and played within the regulations that have been given to them. Unless otherwise noted by USADA, he is innocent until proven guilty.
Galen!!
Galen!!
Galen!!
Galen!!
Galen!!
Say it enough and you can be a fan too.
Honestly one of hte most interesting things to me is that galen has never closed USAs faster than 29.2 or so. in 2014 off of a tactical pace, he ran 29.6 while the race was won by lagat who ran 7:46 and closed in 7:48.
It seems to me that Galen's "practicing his kick" is really not making a difference one way or another. If he can run 26 or 27 and he is in great shape, there is no doubt he will be a threat at the end of this race. The question just becomes whether or not he has been able to build up his "track" fitness since the marathon.
Most of you probably don't realize Galen trained for an ran a 60:30 half marathon 7 weeks before, what was at the time, the race of Galen's life - 8:09.72 for 2 miles. He also closed quite well in that race. Now obviously a marathon is quite different and it was only 4 weeks earlier but to the first point, Galen and Alberto have indicated that he has been tailoring his training towards running a good track 3K. That seems to suggest that it was likely more in line with what he did going into that 8:09. The question is then simple, is he recovered enough?
As far as that goes, it seems like if he was doing 20 mile runs @ race pace and considered a half marathon in 61 a workout, then he probably didn't have too much trouble recovering from the full marathon. Heck just look at sara hall who ran a hot stinker of a marathon in LA last year and came back around to run a fantastic world cross race. You figure galen didn't work half as hard as Sara did that day and has trained more appropriately to tackle both the marathon and the following transition to the race.
Rupp will put on a 3 kilometer "clinic".
What he needs to do is go after that mile wr.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
