On Sunday night, German television station ARD aired the third part of its documentary series on doping in track and field. The latest edition dealt with how Russia has responded to the ban imposed on it by the IAAF and also discusses meldonium — the drug that 2013 world 1500 champ Abeba Aregawi and tennis star Maria Sharapova have both tested positive for in 2016.
We've found an English version of the 28-minute program which you can watch here.

I think its time to officially ban Russian athletics from the Olympics. They have done nothing to reform their program and as this documentary shows have just kept on doing the same thing and tried to cover it up. That's not even bringing up the convenient deaths of the 2 officials. Which I think no one believes was of natural causes. On these boards people always talk about how little people care about Athletics. Well Russia cares enough to murder to people over this. That alone should have been game over for Russia.
I take no pity on the Russian athletes who will not be able to compete. I haven't seen any of them take a strong stance against their countries actions or doping in general. Many of them have been complicit in this whole scandal. This whole thing is pathetic and ARD definitely deserves a ton of credit for the work they've done on this. -
Incredible journalistic work here.
Seppelt and the Stepanovs are the greatest heroes in the history of sport, possibly risking their lives in the pursuit of clean sport. If only those cowards in control of the IAAF would take even an ounce of heed. Their lack of recognizance of that Malaysian corrupt official is despicable. Coe is the lowet form of opportunist and liar.
The head of the Russian sports ministry himself has admitted that it will take "3-4 years" to clean things up. Fine. See you in 2020, if you are diligent. -

Meaning it will take 3-4 years for Russia to find new ways to cheat and make it look like they've cleaned house.
They have no shame or remorse. They clearly don't have any intent at this point to make meaningful change. -

I take a more cynical view. What makes you think that any nation is doing anything more or less than Russia? Gay and Gatlin have both been busted, what makes you think that doping isn't an issue in the US and that people haven't turned a blind eye to it? Most athletes are cheating and it the sport doesn't want it to come out.
When you talk meaningful change, it's hard to take anything seriously when Coe is allowed to become IAAF president. I see no difference in Coe and whatever has gone down in Russia and elsewhere. It is a shite storm and there's no chance it's going to get any better. People wanna blame Kenya, Ethiopia, Russia, etc but the real problem exists at the top. Coe is a fraud and the fact that Paula is now at the IAAF is even funnier. Open your eyes, they are all corrupt, with no shame nor remorse and no intent at this point to make meaningful change. -

This report blows my mind.
For weeks I've been feeling bad for the Russian athletes who couldn't compete. Clean athletes, that is. I figured, "Okay, I know it's bad, but there are probably some clean athletes who are getting unfairly & undeservedly punished." ...So I thought. But after this report, I am seriously wondering if there is a single clean soul in Russia. It's sad. Really, really sad.
And wtf was up with that Malaysian situation?
- "Has Seb responded to your email?"
- "No."
- "Has this guy responded?"
- "No."
- "Did that guy respond?"
- "No."
- "Did anyone respond?"
- "No."
I was reserving judgment on Mr. Coe, but after seeing this documentary, I just can't feel positive about him.
My confidence is officially at an all-time low. Not just in track & field & other running, but in all sports. For crying out loud, even an ICE DANCER has been found to be on meldonium, according to that USA Today article.
In the video, the guy at INADO said Russia should be banned from the Olympics. Did he mean across all sports??? 'Cause I could see that as justified.
As for the leading T&F athletes, it's going to be REALLY, REALLY interesting to watch the next 6 to 7 months to see if they turn in the same caliber of performances as they used to. Wtf happened to Kimetto, anyway?
I feel sorry for anyone trying to read and follow anything I've written: I'm all over the map with my thoughts, half-stark-raving mad, half-despairing, and all because, for me, that third installment of the ARD series was the straw that broke the camel's back. Jos Hermens better be right that Aregawi was an isolated incident among his athletes, 'cause if Kenenisa tests positive for anything, then I'm done with the sport. -
Whole thing is shameful.
The Stepanov's still wait for IAAF to fulfill the steps called for in the Independent Review (namely to provide relocation and vocational assistance).
DIck Pound said that his support for Seb Coe as president was conditioned on them meeting all of the steps in the Independent Review.
Where are the journalists who are asking Seb Coe about their treatment of the Stepanovs?
Who among journalists will ask Dick Pound if he still supports Seb Coe considering how they have failed to follow through on these steps? -
Coe's silence on the corrupt official is the nail in the coffin. The guy is a straight-up fraud.

Set up ! meldonium ban all about politics and propaganda at finest.
out to get russia,
obvious!
dick pound/wada=iaaf -
wake up
meldonium not a performance enhancer,
stimulants easily replaced
tells u just why banned
russia bad narrative.. -
i think russia has been made the scapegoat,in the war against drugs.Im sure they have a serious problem with performance enhancing drugs, and theyve likely been doing it for 60 years now.Its probably expected and part of their sporting culture. However,if you look at performances at the russian national championships, and the USA national championships, for the most part russia lags far behind, and always has done..Apart from some brilliant female middle distance and long distance runners, and being on a par in the womens 400 metres, russia is not up there with USA, either in terms of depth,or amazing performances.Check out their national athletic websites, and see.I think if russia has a huge problem with doping, then USA has an even bigger one.
-
before say stimulants are a ped.
ensure peak performance maintained for duration or when repuired.
not enhancing per se. -
to justify banning it where is it on amphetimine scale.
just above caffine at best.
tat is all fuss.

Go away, idiot. You've never contributed anything to this site with your garbage posts. -
Someone should supply you with a Performance Enhancing Drug for your posts. They're the equivalent of a 7 year old child writing bad Haiku.

i think something must be happening in russia, because last years national championships was so weak,by their standards.athletes left right and centre performing far below par,and championship winning times were very slow by their standards.im not saying russia is waging war on doping, but something must be happening.
