The rationale behind it is because there are literally more male sports than female. There's no wrestling or football for women. Baseball has softball, basketball and basketball, etc. field hockey teams are like 1/3 the size of a football team, if that. So if anything take max football scholarships (85) and subract max FH scholarships and take that number out of the equation.
What in the world is equal about women getting 18 scholarships for track and men getting 12.6. That is unequal.
For those of you saying they're gonna get rid of football all together...you're nuts. It's a multi BILLION dollar industry at the NCAA level. You don't get rid of the cash cow.
If the numbers were 18/18 for track scholarships per gender, I wouldn't care. But on my college team there were overweight girls on scholarship and all state guys not even getting 25%. I went to school in the CAA which has 2-3 teams left for men's track. It's not even a conference anymore.
