Man, our kids are getting soft.
They don't want to run a Mile prelim, then DMR, and then Mile final? Geez, that's what all the greats did and have done.
Why are we babying these kids? We need more Centros, Rowburys, and Simpsons in this world.

Add Batty to that list.
Soratos could have won against this field.
So, most the the top milers are running NCAAs, they just aren't running the mile, right?

Well Simpson and Rowbury didn't have great DMRs to worry about. Simpson never did more than 1 event per meet generally. I do agree with you, however, but I would have used examples like Bowman, Wright and Price who did it for Tennessee, Manzano, Hernandez, and Morse for Texas, Willis and Brannen for Michigan.
In all honestly though, I think Oregon pulled a fast one on a lot of coaches. Ches has hinted many times he will likely triple at NCAAs. I think most coaches thought Mile/5k/3k so coaches thought 1. Wide open DMR 2. Ches will win the mile 3. Ches will be tired for the 3k. This means put your studs in the DMR and 3k and hope for a win. Oregon flipped it and basically opened the door for Haney to run away with the mile given all the scratches and they can win the 5k, Mile, DMR and 3k with less fire power than last year. Perhaps Tiernan will make the 5k a fast race and Ches will be gassed in the DMR.
It would be pretty bazaar to have the anchor leg of the DMR be a better event the the open mile.

It is a shame Syracuse never took a real crack at the DMR so Knight could be in the mix. They have 2 3:58 milers and Knight at 3:56.
I don't know a lot about NCAA milers theses days, but I know it is a lot deeper than it was in the 1990's.
Tiernan is not running the 5K I also think it would be a bit much even for Cheserek to go 5K and then back for the DMR in 40 minutes?
I even think PSU with Kidder and Harris might be fatigued after what will be hard 800M prelims 1:20 earlier

Let me get this straight . . . Someone is selling legs at an attractive open air market?
holy Stephen King batman!
WOW! NO BALLS. What happened to just going for it. Why are these guys even running college track if they think they're already gonna get beat? Might as well take a pottery class instead.
Some of you guys are questioning the integrity of the runners based on which event(s) a runner will be racing. The ONLY decision I made running track was deciding in junior high school to be a middle distance runner instead of a 200/400 person. My coaches decided for me, relays and individual races. I volunteered for relays only twice. Besides those two occasions, I was TOLD by a coach which relays I was racing. I see it as unfair to question the integrity of these NCAA athletes.
