tergat was complete idiot that day
probably in
26'10 / 26'15
but jogged around to 7k with 1/2-fit geb & turned it into a sprint, unknowing geb once likely had 3'29-flat/speed in 3'31+i
dumbest f****uucking kenyan who raced...
That is akin to Belmont '73
The winner was running against guys who were in the shape ~ 3'30 on '70s synthetic
He did that to ~ 3'30 guys in 300m...
6:00 to 7:30 and the finish still kill me.

This one, by the way, was Kon Ichikawa's coverage of the 1964 OG marathon. Superb editing.
Kipketers 97 800m WR in Zurich. Steve Ovett commentating.
Kipketers 97 800m indoor WR in Paris. Steve Cram commentating.

Joanie, 1984 Olympics with a good song too. Inspiring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dFgH_vDh6E
2008 Olympic Marathon. I have a copy, probably watched it 10 times. I believe at the time the WR was ~2:04:30 and they took off at that pace. Commentators constantly saying it was crazy, no way they could maintain it. Half way they are still on 205 or 206 pace, commentators say that's crazy and they certainly won't finish at that pace.
Wanjiru wins ~2:06:30. Marathon has now changed.
NYC Marathon 1981 by miles.
Otherwise, Jones at Chicago, Solinsky 10K, Rotterdam 83, those mid-80s track 10s with Nenow pulling everyone around.
Considering the love for front-runners around here, I can't believe no one else posted this all-time classic, the best front-run ever:

Beautifully covered, trackside shot put you right among the greats
I like watching Billy Mills win gold at 10k and dave wottle winning the 800m. Also I'm a hardcore Hanson's fanboy so the Brain Sell 2007 Olympic marathon trials are good too.
It's a real shame the original version with the Arcade Fire song was taken down. That was as motivational as they come.

Morcelli 1500 Gothenburg.
Also Coghlan in 1983. Love the way he looks back at the Russian as he runs past.
These are all pretty obvious choices, but they are obvious because they are great:
