"Shoe producers have a bad habit of introducing crappier products year after year."
Bingo.
Asics has progressively degraded their Nimbus model (which goes for $150.) They reduced material overlays on the shoe, so the shoe lost stability, support, and durability. On the forefoot out-sole, they switched to a less durable material that wears out at a ridiculously fast rate. Now they're screen-printing their brand-stripe on the shoe, rather than sewing it on (more lost lateral support.) Recently, they copied Nike and went to a "knitted" upper. These changes, they say, are about "reduced weight" but who cares about reduced weight in a mileage shoe? They've gone to an "internal support system" on the upper, but when you try the Nimbus 17 on, its flimsy. That's why there's a ton of Nimbus's on sale currently, at places like Running Warehouse, because people are returning a crappy product.
