not at all. Alexi Pappas is easily the wittiest and most creative runner there is. Also her Twitter is so much fun...unlike Phoebe Wright's.

It's a lot like gender that way.
Who?

Yeah. LOL. "Great pride" to represent the most corrupt country in the first world, which you've probably spent two weeks of your life in. Yeah, I'm sure.
uhhhhh, you're likely living in the most corrupt country in the first world, man.
Very important for a professional athlete to compete in the Olympics.
Her relatives in Greece must be very proud.
All the best Alexi!
Ignorate all you want but she's actually a very good runner. Good move for her.

Interesting how when Bernard Lagat made the switch most people here were not supportive since he was doing it so he could avoid Kenya's more competitive Olympic trials. Many people seem supportive of Alexi Pappas.

Many people seemed supportive of Lagat too.
How does she have dual citizenship with Greece? It sounds like both her parents were born in the US.
Is it that easy to have dual citizenship?

Great move if the avenue is open! I'm all for it if Greece (or whatever country happens to be involved) doesn't have any of their own athletes under the relevant qualifying marks.
i don't get too excited about these types of stories when it doesn't involve a medal contender. That is the reason for the "who" remark.
not all Olympians are created equal. Sarah Attar and Lolo Jones both are both Americans and Olympians. I only consider one of them to be a serious athlete. People like Pappas fall somewhere in the middle.
Didn't the US supply most of Greece's Olympic baseball team, also? Like a previous poster commented, Plastic Greek. Congrats on finding the easiest way out.
How'd you like to lose a national record to some runner who just thought it'd "be cool" to run for some country they're barely familiar with?

Ask Ted Cruz!

Yeah.
And Pappas won't take anyone's spot because no one else is qualified. Lagat running for the US meant one less spot for the other Americans.

Immigrating to the US is very common. It never surprises me when athletes become US citizens. I don't blame them.
Competing for a country you were not born in nor raised in, but have dual citizenship for whatever reason, is altogether different. I take it she will not move to and train in Greece.
Guess I didn't appreciate the depth of your commitment to the sport, following only medal contenders and all...

I saw her a few weeks ago at one of the TrackTown meets in Portland at the House of Track. She solo'd the 3000 in something like 9:05 with no-one close to her. Solid run.
I'm thinking she continues to make improvements in her 5k or 10k times over the next several years.
