I assume since far more people run the hurdles including many who are not trained is why it is higher than something like the pole vault.
As a high school coach I've seen the most injuries in the boys 110 hurdles specifically, multiple ACL tears, nasty falls, concussions etc. Every year at the state meet in Colorado about half of the boys 110 hurdle heats are disasters, hurdles flying everywhere, kids falling, lane violations etc.
Statistically, when it comes to "catastrophic injuries" ie brain damage, paralysis or death, pole vault is king:
