That's what Lewis Johnson just said on the Millrose broadcast.
Is that even possible? Maybe because he came over here in high school he can get citizenship sooner than someone else? Most people get a green card first right?

I'm pretty sure there was a thread a few months ago about C's applying for citizenship. In any case, he doesn't need a green card.

He'll be fast-tracked. The priority is US medals.

Especially with him being of African descent. If he were of European or Asian descent, US officials would drag their feet. But if an individual is black or Hispanic, things hit high gear. Not PC, but true, despite propaganda to the opposite. Don't be surprised if Ches is on the track at the US Oly trials.
The Fedgov will also look the other way regarding inconsistencies regarding his true birth date.
Looks like he does need a green card (permanent resident status). I presume he got that coming over as a high schooler and that is different than coming over as a collegian?
Otherwise I'd think most Kenyans who went to school here would stay one more year and get citizenship.

Unbelievable, right? How can we hope to weed out the terrorists applying for citizenship if some of the applicants have people on message boards claiming they might be as much as a whole year older? Talk about a national security nightmare, a controversy over exact birth date of a potential citizen. I hope they convene a special hearing of Congress to get to the bottom of this before granting him citizenship.
I would find it unacceptable for us to grant somebody citizenship who is accused of being slightly older by people on running boards, even if he does submit all the correct paperwork.
I doubt that he has a green card. I've never known anybody to jump from an F1 to a green card without either having a work sponsor, marrying a US citizen, or military service. There might be less well known streams to do this for exceptionally talented individuals like Cheserek but I've never heard of them (FYI I am not an expert - just have been through the process myself).
I'll take the attempt to get US citizenship seriously if someone can provide proof he's even a permanent resident.
Just because he's on the track doesn't mean he'll dominate at the professional level. Chelanga was dominant in college too but wasn't even a dark horse to make the US team. And where's Lawi Lalang?
If Cheserek wants to be an American though, I think we'd all have him run as an American from the get go than run one olympics for kenya while he waits to meet citizenship requirements.
Cheserek was outkicked by three Americans today who will be in the 5000m trials. Add in True and Garrett Heath and he'd project as a sixth seed.
Can't even project him in the 10000m because he's never run a fast time.
Really great to see him get beat by Jenkins. That has to have been a load on Jenkins' back for some time now.
Sure, but Cheserek won decisively in the 5 at NCAA's last year when the gloves were off, though Jenkins was better in the summer.
how long has he been talking about this? This tale goes back over a year
did you guys even watch this race???
Cheserek had to lead when the rabbit dropped off from 1600 - 2700.... Hill, Jager were sitting back running a smart race, which I give them alot of credit for doing. If the roles had been reversed, I believe you would have seen a slightly different result.

Was thinking the same thing.

Wait. Jenkins, the professional runner, beat a college athlete? What feather in his cap! All that pro training is really paying off!
Do you even read your own website, which linked to a WSJ article on this point almost a year ago?
US doesn't fast-track for athletes. This is not Sweden or some other European country in desperate need for Foreign athletes. Wherever you heard this is wrong.
In fact - you have multiple hurdles to get through before getting a citizenship:
1. Green Card. After green card you have to wait atleast 5 years.
2. FBI fingerprints + several background checks + some BS waiting in line like the DMV to do some other sh*t.
3. Take the Citizenship test + pass it (which a HUGE portion of the US population would fail, by the way, if they were given this test).
In between #1, #2, and #3 is waiting. The kind of waiting you do in a doctor's office lobby and then in the Doctor's room itself wondeirng what the heck the doctor is doing. Just replace Doctor with Gov't and extend the wait period.
Don't assume just because Cheserek told the TV announcers he'll have this citizenship by Trials that it means he will. The only entity that knows this is the US Gov't and they don't reveal timelines ... "yes you will be a citizen by the US Trials, no worries!"
Correct. Unless he's been a U.S. resident (green card holder) for at least three years already, he isn't getting citizenship this year.

Would I be correct in assuming you are a jokester?

There was a very involved discussion about this some time age, this thread will generate a lot of posts going over what has already been discussed. There are a few people who have some insights into this that have already spoken and probably won't respond to this thread.
