Notice he lost his hat around the time he broke from Meb. Do you think it was weighing him down?
What if Meb threw his hat away at that point? could he have kept pace?

I felt that taking his hat off was a mistake.
True story,
My buddy got Galen's hat... it's on Ebay now.
Galen actually tossed his hat to one of the course workers who posted about it on reddit, source:

It's not on eBay and he doesn't plan on selling it.
I got Galen's hat and I'm wearing it on my run this morning.

Correct. The sun and heat started getting to him afterwards. He looked face-fired at the end--cheeks going to be sunburned.
I am Galens hat. And I'm still on that street. They all forgot about me and I keep getting ran over by trucks and cars! Please someone pick me up!
He should have gone with a visor; keeping the sun off your face is great but the hat prevents heat from escaping and prevents you from dumping water on your head for cooling. The only reason for wearing a hat on a day like that over the visor is to prevent sunburn.
doesn't explain Ritz wearing a visor on such a sunny and hot day with male balding
Taking off his hat was just another example of the arrogance and entitlement that makes Rupp so completely unlikeable.
Who would want a hat with a picture of Alberto Salazar's skull and duck wings on it?

I have always felt that a hat makes me hotter. I, too, would have ditched the hat. They are good for protection from the sun, but they undoubtedly make me feel hotter.
this thread cracks me up
I was running in New York yesterday and thought I saw Galen's Hat blowing down the street. I tried to catch up to it, but it was too fast for me. The wind was blowing from the north, so the hat may be down in Jersey by now.
Can you imagine what would have happened if he'd flipped it backwards?! LRC would have exploded! Might have broken the internet.
I bought the hat on ebay! Look at me!
You dropped your hat!
There's santa.
Who am I?
