Rupp had no idea they were talking about him. awkward moment, but for once it was not on Rupp.
For once Rupp was not the culprit here.

That was so awkward, Meb looked frightened afterward. He looks downright terrified after that for several minutes. Nervous deep breaths and body language. I get Mebs perspective, but I hope he realizes his wrong here and apologizes to Rupp for going on for minutes about it just after Rupp became the trials champion in his first marathon. I think meb got nervous once he got talking, realizing that it probably was wrong to slam him, and in his nervousness he got worse and couldn't stop. Then afterwards he's realizing what an (out of character) jerk he just was and he's super uncomfortable.
Imagine if Goucher would have made the team and been up there answering questions, how awkward would that have been? On the other hand, perhaps she would have been ecstatic in chosen to withdraw all accusations.
Marathoners + social situations = mega awkwardness

Maybe you missed the fact that Galen doesn't even get there until Meb is wrapping up his answer? I doubt he would have started off like that if Galen was sitting next to him when the question was asked.
I didn't miss the fact that Galen wasn't there. He was merely answering the question.
Their conversation wasn't friendly and he was annoyed that Galen was running so close to him.
Meb might be a bit salty because 26:44 makes 27:11 look like a cakewalk
Meb was clearly jealous of someone who is gonna rise to be the GOAT of the America.
I swear lrc would be shocked and appalled talking to me with the shit you complain about
I don't know what you're seeing but I DO know that you're full of s##t.
Honestly. The men on here are the biggest whiny hen party of all time. It's embarrassing. I'm a woman and frigging teenage girls don't carry on the way men on here do. OMG MEB IS SOOOOOO MEAN. After every race you ladies are looking for any reason to be offended/find anything athlete say offensive/construct fanfiction about who hates each other/gossip about omg mebbb said something about ruppy and now ruppy is going to cry. It's embarrassing. Grow up and get some balls and stop being such gossipy, petty, old lady looking in the window, losers.
Agree - nothing to see here... much ado about nothing.

I think you didn't notice that actually.

At least we don't PRETEND to be women.
Considering Pennel broke the race open for Meb and Meb subsequently didn't have to do it himself, this all seems a bit disingenuous to me. Meb benefitted tremendously from the work of another runner when Meb could have made the move himself. Another runner (Rupp) benefitted from Meb's work when he could have just done it himself. What's the difference? If anything, Pennel made the bolder move and Meb took advantage, whereas Rupp was just waiting for the right moment to apply his obviously better fitness.

Meb is obviously liked by many. as should be.
but was it really that difficult to bite his tongue a bit and just say they were maybe too close to each other during the race and leave it at that. no reason to publicly humiliate your new olympic teammate. how was galen supposed to react in that kind of awkward situation. I would have been taken aback too.
Yes, shutting your mouth is always the best thing to do.
Meb was classless in the beginning of his response. And why was Amy Cragg laughing? That was so awkward and very disrespectful to Rupp. Enough with the clicks, gossip, pettiness, and high school jealousy. Until NOP is proven of wrongdoing these other athletes should stfu.
You have to remember most of these runners are egomaniacs and are almost clinically narcissistic. They've never had real jobs and have only been focused on running 24/7 since childhood. It's bizarre.
If you actually listen to what Meb had to say, it was not a complaint about Rupp's strategy to draft so much as it was to draft so closely that he was clipping his heels at points. In track, it is understandable and undeniable that things get a little tight and that is going to happen. On the roads where there is a greater margin of error, there is no reason to be so close on someone that you are clipping him ~20 miles into a race.
It seems as though some have misinterpreted what I thought was his clearly stated message and taken it as bitterness that Rupp's strategy to draft, conserve and move late race paid off. Anyone with half a brain knew that was going to be Rupp's approach; I would have to guess that a seasoned veteran like Meb could have guessed that as well. What he likely couldn't have guessed was how closely Rupp was going to tuck in behind him and that this would result in a little bumping 20 miles into a race. That, to me, is reason enough to call someone out privately or publicly.

Rupp get too close and bumping is from his track training. Rupp was in the wrong to run that close with so much real estate available on the marathon course. Poor move by Rupp. He should have apologized to Meb for bumping and not understanding what type of race a marathon is.
