Another injury. Femoral stress fracture.

Damn, his training was looking pretty good. He seemed just as fit as ever
Source? His blog and twitter don't mention it.
Source?
I don't think it's legit. I think a couple twitter accounts for running media are misunderstanding news about his previous stress fractures or they're lying. I saw a couple links to websites that don't exist. There's nothing about it on his twitter.
Doesn't Vail run for Brooks and not Nike, Nikeman? ...
My source is a publication that was doing an article on him for the Trials. The information came from the folks at Brooks.
Looks legit now. Competitor article:
16 @ 4:58 three weeks out. Must have re-aggravated that femoral stress fracture.
I just spoke to Ryan Vail's coach Dave Smith and he confirmed that Vail is out. A shame, as Vail looked to be training well recently but seems like he came back a little too hard too soon for the Trials. It's his third significant injury since USAs since he had a stress reaction in his foot and a stress fracture in his back last year. Smith said they're hoping he can come back and run a fall marathon.
Vail should probably not think about a race right now and spend 3-4 months running 80mpw and popping calcium, in my opinion...

You mean spend the next 3-4 months rehabbing and NOT running, right? Hay-Zeus...
Ah yes, I meant rehab first and then once healthy spend a few months running lower mileage. My bad. My point was that he should not try to jump up mileage so aggressively and spend a few months habituating his body back to running, rather than just jumping back to race prep. He was healthy for 9 years so something is really out of whack...
He jumped his mileage up aggressively specifically trying to not simply show up for the trials, but to compete for a spot. If not for the Olympics, it would have been more gradual.
The Olympic cycle is brutal for people at Ryan's level.
Ooohhhh Man, Damit!
$hit!
Bummer, I was rooting for the guy.
I guess running 140 mile weeks shortly after a stress fracture was a little ambitious. Good blog, good guy, hope he can make some noise later in the year.

That really makes me think he is undereating
