Darn....I was looking forward to seeing Deena mixing it up with the top pack. Kara's chances have just mightily improved.

As the trials get close, it's not surprising that we are seeing contenders like Kastor, Vail, etc. trying to push their training a little too hard and going over the edge to injury.
You don't think they've MAYBE been having lingering issues for a long time, and now that it's game day, they've decided it's not worth risking? I think anyone who is on the fence, at this level, would wait until the 11th hour to decide.

Honestly, considering she had to chance to win a medal anyway, I thought it was kinda selfish that she wanted to finish top 3 and potentially steal the Olympics spot from Kara Goucher.

Hmmm...
Athletes who have pre-tested themselves and were positive.
Eleventh hour.

It's not scripted; it's not a popularity contest. If you want to have a cutest smile contest, fine--but this is marathoning,
USATF plays favorites by never testing positive athletes. So, while it isn't scripted like WWE they have quite intentionally altered outcomes.

I'm shocked!! SHOCKED you would say such a thing about USATF...
Oh, wait.
The DNS list is getting a little bit long. I am still on the fence about whether the trials is worth the beating on the athletes.
Kara has zero chance at a medal. GTFO. -10

I hate to say it but karma's a bitch. Go Kara.

Are you implying that Goucher has an opportunity to medal in this year's Olympics and maybe also in 2020?
If Goucher couldn't beat the 43-year-old Kastor in the Trials, how does it work that she could beat everyone in the world save two people this year? And then have a chance to do it again in 2020?

Yeah, I'm sure Deena and Ryan got hurt from overtraining in the last week before the race.
They got her buddy Radcliffe and now they got Kastor too.
That's why she's out.
There is still one more major DNS coming that almost everyone has in their top 5.
what a ridiculous post... The trials are a meritocracy. If you finish top 3 ahead of the other runners, you generally have a better chance at a medal than those slower than you at the trials.
I thought it was kinda selfish that she wanted to finish top 3...
always earned, never given...

Wow
Deena in the race certainly made things easier; however, I have not seen anything recently to suggest she had a legit shot at finishing top-3. Huh? She made things easier? Not sure what that means. And you may have not seen anything from her recently, but as recently as 4 months ago the rest of us saw her run a 2:27 and smash the master's record.

I'm picking Friday night. Who's going to scratch Saturday morning?
'Sidelined so late in the game'
(I've been given the choice of DNS or suspension)
'I'll be there in LA to watch'
(Can't screw up my brand and any appearance fees for future Runners World hype type races)
DeRueck, Somers, Kastor.
Not buying their cleanliness.
