I'm gonna say Llano and Scott Smith (sorry Ben) will be the class of the "underdog" crowd (aka anyone whose last name isn't Rupp, Ritzenhein, Puskedra or Chelanga). It would be fair to say that making the team for either of these two is a bit of a stretch at the moment, but I'd put both of them at the top of the "if the favourites falter then maybe" list.
Kellyn Taylor is the top contender after the "big three" of Flanagan, Linden and Hastings. Actually, at this point I'd pick Taylor over Hastings to make the team. 2:28 debut and training leading up to LA has apparently been going much better during this cycle.
Anyone who's been following their training on social media over the last several months knows where I'm coming from with this. Seems to me like NAZ has pure marathon training down pat more so than any other group; very interested to see how they progress across all distances over the next couple of years.
