I went to a d1 school that had track/football guys go on to play football professionally. All these guys where sprinters and phenomenal athletes. Regardless these guys got significantly weaker as the distance went up. These guys could run 21/22 for 200m and 46-48 for 400m. We would have them run 600m and they would run 1:30 plus. We also had 149-151 guys that would struggle to run mile repeats at 515 pace. I was a 153 endurance guy and would rip them apart at any repeats over 600m. I also had decent speed (49 4x4, 23.5 200m) but would struggle to keep up in faster paced shorter repeats. You don't understand how different these events are. I would bet you that even guys like Jeremy Wariner and Michael Johnson would struggle to run that pace for a tempo run.
