4 under 4 last year, 4 under 3:59 this year.
Bile 3:57.8, Williams 3:57.8, Bartelsmeyer 3:58.2, Lederhouse 3:58.4.

Why is the CR for the 4xmile outdoors still over 16:00 again?
That impressive, Syracuse put 3 under 3:59 last weekend... hoyas looking good.
Now they just have to put it together at NCAA's when it counts. Could also have a lethal 4xmile team on their hands for Penn Relays.
Bile - 357.84
Williams - 357.88
Bartelsmeyer - 358.22
Lederhouse - 358.42
1-2-3-4 in the race. No one else broke 4.

A few thoughts,
1) Huge props to Coach Bonsey, and the Georgetown program in general for not letting the turmoil this summer slow them down. They had one of the best xc seasons in recent memory this past fall, and seem to be doing pretty well in indoor.
2) Last year right around this time, gtown had four guys go under four in a race at BU, I think it may have been the same meet. If I recall correctly, Bartelsmeyer had the fastest time with a 358 low, with bile, lederhouse, and manahan (who transferred to ole miss...booo) close on his heals, all around in 359.XX. This year they all stepped it up a notch, with the foursome coming in the 357-358 range, rather than 358-359.
3) however, in my opinion, that race last year was pretty much the pinnacle of their track season, indoor or out. At nationals, bile was the only one to make the final of the mile, and he was close to last. And they didn't have a particularly competitive DMR at indoor nationals, or 4xmile at penn either. None of the foursome last year ran any faster for the rest of indoor/outdoor.
4) in my opinion, a team with four guys well under sub four should be a strong contender in the DMR, and the 4xmile, and should be putting a lot of people in the finals of the mile at indoors, and 1500 outdoors. Last season they just weren't able to run fast when it counted. It will be super interesting to see if they learned from last year, and are able to make headlines later this season/year. They are a super talented team, and they should be better represented at nationals.
5) as much as I hate to say it, my prediction is that this year will follow the same general trajectory as last year. As talented as these four guys are, I just can't see any of them running any faster than 3:57, MAYBE with the exception of bile. As a general team, they seem to be more suited for time trialing in races such as these, rather than out kicking people at nationals. I hope I am wrong though!!
good to see the Hoya men doing well now since Henner was fired. imagine what a good coach would have done with all the talent that passed through there in the last decade.
Georgetown is the new Penn state, (or Villanova?). Lots of meaningless January/ February or April times and no shows in March and June . At least 'Cuse got a skin in November. They might make some noise in championship season
Don't they also have a few other guys that could also go sub 4? That's crazy.

It's a rarely run event and even rarer for a top team to be pushed the whole four miles by another team.

And equally as big as not having any competition is the fact that it's normally windy as hell at Penn Relays where it's most often run.
The Gtown guys ran 3:58 with rabbits and no wind. How fast can they run with no rabbit and wind. I think if teams agreed to go for it, it could be amazing. Get Gtown, Oregon and Syracuse to all agree to focus on it. Hell if you did it at Oregon at night with rabbits, it would almost certainly happen
Very impressive performance by Gtown milers. Championship racing is different though. In season performances just get you there to the championships. Championship is most always sit and kick. This requires ability to shift gears and high end speed. I would guess 400/800prs are a close predictor of the order of finish in ncaa championship mile.
New coach this year so maybe things are different in training/racing schedules. They still qualified a large group to ncaa outdoors last year (800,1500,steeple, 5k, 10k) which i bet maybe only oregon did as well. So, outdoors wasnt disaster last year except they probably wanted higher finishes at the outdoor ncaa- which is probably the case for everyone.
That said, what the Gtown milers did is certainly very impressive.
My understanding is they were just tempoing that race too.
It looks like rojo has hijacked the thread...given it a new title and claimed authorship according to the list of thread titles on page 1.
Isn't Sean Wade 50? He ran 4:23.07 and 8:51 3k at this meet.
Y'know, the world record for the mile has been under 3:45 for well over 20 years.
Isn't it time to drop this fixation with 4:00.00? Yeah, I realize that it's a nice round number, and maybe it was appropriate to lionize sub-four guys when the WR was not much below 3:55...but those days are gone, and have been for a long time.
Fine achievement, congrats to the runners and the program, but realistically it's (now) just another good time. Enough already.

Who said anything about 4:00.00?
Title is 4 sub 3:59...
The title could have also been "4 sub 3:58.5"
We all believe that this has never been achieved before in the history of the NCAA.
To my knowledge, all four Georgetown guys are Americans. The American CR for the 4Xmile is 16:15 (the CR is 16:03). Somehow, I think that 16:15 should be very easy for them to beat (16:03 also...)
