Overheard a real estate broker in the elevator talking to his clients:
"This neighborhood has also become really expensive, just because of its popularity".
No sh|t. Popular place become more expensive. Must be a smart kid.

Depends, some clown working for an agent showing apartments, not very smart.
Running your own agency requires good business skills and sense so average to slightly above average smarts.
Don't need bookish smarts so much, but need to know how to read people.
An IQ of 108 is required to be a real estate agent. To be a broker, you have to have an IQ of 115
It's not hard, you just have to be a good sales person to make the comission. Many psychology majors become realtors. Regina Jacobs and Vanilla Ice are realtors.
Just another career choice for ex-cheerleaders. All you really need is looks ,although as pointed out, to run your own office requires some (not exceptional) smarts.
I always said I could get in a car now and pass off as a perfectly credible REA with no training or anything. The legal stuff requires some knowledge, but most of the entry barriers are working weekends, and uncertain income (best if you have some $ behind you). Of course, broker managers are car-dealer-lite in the way they hassle the sales force , but if you are in the right place/time and can handle the ups and downs it's a good job.

Wait, just to be completely sure... you mean a REAL one, right?

If he knew the important details and trends about this neighborhood and the general area that his clients were looking in, then he was possibly a competent agent.
I have shoe boxes in my closet that are smarter than many real estate "agents".
I think you have to be really smart to invest in real estate and make money there. But I also like that there are more and more websites which help a lot with it. For example, https://fortstjohn.com/ which is a cool service with info about Fort St. John city in Canada. I have to say that it helps a lot to those who are interested in investing there
Smart enough to pass the real estate exam.

That's it, plus the ability to work with people, and the intelligence to be ethical.
Teachers who know how to work with people are usually the best candidates.
Engineers and the like who have zero people skills are the worse.
On a scale of 1-10, probably a negative 7.
I come from a seasonal resort town where wealthy people have very very very expensive mansions and basically every MORAN I grew up with, as well as their stupid parents are brokers.
I think you have to be a bit sharper to do commercial stuff but in the housing market, it seems like anyone with a GED and a pulse thinks they can sell real estate.
Ta-Tas add at least 20% to your sales.

That's because the MORON is you.
Here is the realtor exam:
Question 1:
I want to be a real estate agent (check one):
________ Yes
________ No
If you answer Yes to Question 1, CONGRATULATIONS on being a real estate agent.
If you answer No to Question 1, why are you here taking this test?
Please submit this questionnaire and your money for this test (cash only) to the person at the front of the room.
Thank you,
Realtor School

Hahaha. He doesn’t live there. He forgot to mention that he was delivering pizzas and wondering if he might have what it takes to move up and become a realtor.
Tara Welling is a Realtor.
