That was a fun one to watch, 8:03.50, and Tegenkamp in for 8:07 AR as well.

Because it's utterly stupid as he clearly said it to sound cool and get quoted...for no other reason (yes, it worked, wow is he smart). Take a Psych 101 course, very simple, but yet it boogles you so easily.Lauren Fleshman did the same thing, to sound cool and get quoted...like it's never been said before. Marketing 101, like prickity bars:):):):):)

I want to know when London fields are released - why hasn't Mottram made any news until now? He wasn't on the field list here
Would London be giving him appearance money? Or has everyone forgotten about him so he's not worth anything to the race because he can't run 2:05?
Is Mottram still with Chris Wardlaw?

the Big Mzungu is now sponsored by Mizuno ? seems fitting..
Mzungu from Wikipedia -
Literally translated it meant "someone who roams around aimlessly" or "aimless wanderer." The term was first used in the African Great Lakes region to describe European explorers in the 18th century, apparently as a result of their propensity to get lost in their wanderings in Africa.
my first encounter with the term was backpacking through Malawi, where the little kids would point at me chanting 'mzungu, mzungu !' then fall about with laughter..
What is the qualifying procedure for the Australian Olympic Marathon Team?
Technically sub 2.19 on or before 24 April (Buster's leaving to the very last day). In reality sub 2.15 should qualify. https://ausrunning.net/stats/rankings/
Hi mopak,
you forgot in that list that Brad Milosevic a 2.16 in Melb (on debut if i recall correctly).
cheers

Considering his testicular heft, I am a bit surprised his wife didn't have octuplets.
I heard that he is planning a testicular reduction surgery which should cull 10 lbs or so.
I grew up watching Russell desaix chin, Dean degan and many other truly gifted runners from 2000 to 2010. There was incredible depth back then. St George athletics club was a powerhouse in sydney. It just seems like the depth isn't there anymore. From that 5k and 10k level with enough of a pool of guys to push up to the marathon.

Awesome - I love this guy. One of few athletes with a bit of personality!
He IS a great guy. He was at Millrose once maybe 10ish years ago.
He was sitting way up in the noseblead seats (MSG) and my daughter went up to get his autograph.
She said he was cool and very friendly. Great guy.
Good luck to him!

Shawn ... a great story for Australian Athletics as he was diagnosed last year with Type 1 Diabetes.
That's not a great story.
Type ONE diabetes is also known as juvenile diabetes. There is no known cause or cure. Read the New York Times lately? kids with type one still struggle to be included in sport and have to sit out because of low blood sugar, so tell us again how it's not an inspirational story? A marathoner with type one is inspirational. Get educated.
The Times reported on students with Type 1 diabetes who struggle to get medical care while they are in school. In spite of federal protections, diabetic students have been barred from neighborhood schools and from participating in extracurricular activities.

I'm not sure he has the right mix talent. And 2:13 is pedestrian. But good luck to him.
You missed the Rio part of his plan: jog 2:13 in London, hammer a 2:10 in Rio. I think it's wise, since he'll be able to recover for Rio if he just jogs London in. Let the studs kill themselves in London, like they did last year, and he'll be fighting for a medal when he manages a 2:10 in the heat in Rio.

WHOOSH!
Any update on Mottram's training for London? He still toeing the line?
Mzungu is the same word in Chichewa for the Swahili Mazungo.
The kids in Malawi actually typically say Azungu, as if there were more than one of them, but maybe they don't know the difference between plural and singular at that age. But they sure yell it at foreigners and also typically ask for ten tambala. A big contrast to Zanzibar, where the kids in the villages yell the friendly greeting, "Jambo!" Mzungu was associated with a word for ghost but is now applied to foreigners, not just whites (but most of the foreigners--that is, non-Africans--are white; I'll bet they use the term for Chinese as well.).
Did Buster run any races in the leadup to this? Remember him in a 15K on the roads last year I think.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
