This conversion is absolutely bogus. This isn't even worth a sub 4.

Certainly good enough to be in the conversation, but he appears to be about where Ches was 2 years ago and as far as the Olympic trails, there are at least a half dozen 5K guys who can run a 3:56x mile.

Does the NCAA conversion work in REVERSE for sprints & jumps where altitude/thin air gives a clear advantage??????????
Yes! Your altitude sprints and jumps get converted down to worse times and distances. I think the switch is between 400 and 800 meters. 800 you subtract, 400 you add. How neat is that?
I just now ran a 3:55 mile.
Actually it was 8:16 through the neighborhood but I was dodging a lot of curbs, cars and houses that were off to the side, and one time I saw a dog that was eating it's dinner, plus I saw a cat and a bird. Without all those distractions, oh and the street was very hard, not flat, slanted a bit and sometimes there were cars on it, I would have run at least twice as fast so I'm figuring at least 3:55, or faster.

Interesting that an Aussie 1:44.3 (tied WR) and a Kenyan 1:44.5 ran those times at Mexico City 1968. Perhaps the altitude conversion should start ABOVE 800?

So what does Keino's 3:35 in Mexico City convert to......3:29 from 1968?
He was certainly capable of that if not faster.

Why is there a sweeping conversion by NCAA when NAU athletes have a clear advantage.

Yes.
