That US Junior 10K record is low-hanging fruit for Allie. By the looks of it, she'll be able to run 32:51 anytime this Spring. That 15:20 will also fall soon (unless all the races get real tactical).
Great race by Allie yesterday. Congrats!

Not sure Allie has the sprinting speed of Seidel or others. So, probably not in her best interest to let it be tactical. At NCAAs I would suggest that, if the pace is too slow at 1K, to just get out there and start hammering away - and hope she takes the kick out of legs of the others.
Strategy: make the others run sub 15:20 or sub 15:15 to win.
Guess that is obvious?
I'm sure someone has pointed out that she has wonderful form and is also very poised, both as a person and a runner.
For most runners, speed work is overrated. A little goes a very long way; more than a little often puts one in the tank. Hence so many runners hitting their peaks in April and by late May they are gone.

Just saw the post-race video from Allie on Flo (its free!). Early in the interview she said this race was the result "of a lot of hard work" since XC season (which makes one think she might peak too soon), but then she said that they haven't really done any speed work to date. Allie closes by hoping that there are still faster times in front of her this year. Good interview.
regarding seidel vs. Allie sprint speed, I aways find it interesting that people assume Allie has no speed because she has the build of a marathoner.
Not saying she has great speed but i would think it's probably better than most people assume. She ran the 300 hurdles and the 400 in high school and her 800 time in HS was 2:11 which compares favorably to what runners like Sisson (2:14) and Seidel (2:23) ran in HS. Not sure what the 400m times are for most 5k/10k college girls but i bet allie's 62 would be at least average or better. Just interesting to always see her characterized as being pure distance and having no speed just based off her stature.
I don't think you're wrong though, it would be smart for her to narrow the field down by keeping the pace fast. She MIGHT be better in a tactical than she's given credit for, but we KNOW what she's capable of in a fast race.
I know everyone's talking about Allie and rightly so. What an amazing performance from an amazing young runner. But Kim Conley needs some love too. 15:09 indoors is a damn solid run for her. Can't wait to see what she throws down in the OT 10,000m. She's got a great story too, mediocre-to-decent college runner following her dreams and progressing massively as a pro.
Just a big fan of hers. Carry on.
to whoever watched the race, how far did kate grace run? i know she was supposed to pace conley, and i heard they hit a mile in 4:51. just wondering how far kim ran alone.
Since we can't watch her 5K debut...her she is in the recent Mtn. Marathon 2nd to Emelie Forsberg...pretty cool race to watch.
I thought she quit her team and transferred to Colorado?

I hope all you people here do realize that even though that race is called a mt marathon, it is not in fact a full 26.2 mile marathon even though some guy always posts on every Allie Ostrander thread insinuating it is a full marathon but not really saying that it is and enjoying when he trolls a few not trolls into posting what I have just said. Don't forget to check out this months Trail Runner magazine with Emelie on the cover!!
That is Anna Frost on the cover of this month's Trail Runner magazine, not Emelie Forsberg. Great pic was taken near the top of Lone Peak during the Vertical K (VK) SkyRunner race at The Rut in Montana. Pretty dramatic shot but the climb is pretty dramatic too!http://trailrunnermag.com/current-issue

That was last month. I got this month in the mail a couple days ago.

Flotrack during the interview and the race keep saying she came in 3rd at NCAA's XC. Don't they know she came in 2nd... 5 secs behind Molly Seidel?

Really poorly interviewed, stupid questions and babble by the interviewer and clearly not prepared.
Just saw the whole vid - both Kim and Allie were rockin' it! Looks like they can both run faster if they have someone right next to them pushing the pace.
Now looking forward to Allie's 10K debut this Spring. Sub 32:00? What is the translation from her 5K PR?
I have to reconsider Allie O's future - 15:21 is no joke - she's probably a national team contender at this point. Maybe at 10k?

Get down into the low or (maybe) sub 15s outdoors and she could be a factor in the 10 at USOTs. Amazing trajectory for Allie O.
Does no one else think that she's too thin to maintain this level of performance? I can't see her able to break 15:40 three years from now.
