Mo's 2:08 was a fade from a faster pace in a race with the world's best. Rupp should definitely be capable of a more even paced 2:08. He runs that and he wins the race by 1 minute plus.

This is a game-changer. Updated top 5:
1. Meb
2. Rupp
3. Puskedra
4. Ritz
5. Ward
You heard it here first!
This will be good base training for a Leadville 100 attempt. If he can grow a beard...
Meb missed by over a minute and a half in 2012. That's not even close. He's not as good as he was then, Ritz has to be better than he ever was, and that's possible but unlikely. Who else besides Rupp does that realistically leave?
I think it's gonna be
1/2. Rupp
2/1. Ritz
3. Puskedra
4. Chelanga
5. Meb
I think Rupp and Ritz are gonna work together and it won't matter which one of them wins. Meb is going to go home devastated.
Did Ritz leave Al Sal on good terms? Did he talk to Epstein, maybe even "anonymously"?
Maybe Rupp running is Al Sal's revenge on Ritz. Salazar definitely seems petty enough.

Rupp is the only U.S. runner with the potential to medal in the marathon. Ritz is a super, super long shot.
Meb finished 4th at the last Olympics and won Boston in 2014.
Rupp hasn't even run a marathon.

Rupp has never tried to run through the wall. Salazar always has him quit at the slight pain--cuboid bone on the track massage. I don't see Salazar sacrificing his special care plan for his #1 son.
He'll fake an injury around 25 to 30km marker when he realizes he feels he can't win. You heard it here first. That's his plan. I guarantee it.
I hope he gets new shoes for the marathon because he's been running sometime over 100 miles each week this year on those old shoes.
Pleasantly surprised that Alberto and Rupp decided to do the 'thon! Great, great move. I believe the marathon/10K double is the best way to go for him. Rupp has absolutely no shot in Rio for the 5K and it would have been a waste of time. Strike while the iron is still hot, Go Rupp!!!!
Hot Damn! This is gonna be must see T.V. Game-changer is an understatement. I better get a good night's sleep 2 days out, cause I sure ain't sleeping much the night before. This news was the ONLY antidote to the dysphoria I've been experiencing since Ryan Hall's announcement.
Would love to see Meb make the team but isn't he 40 yrs old? There is always a new or relative unknown guy that makes the marathon team. Meb will run well but no top 3 this time.
potential, holmes. he is spot on. don't talk about the last olymics, yada yada yada.

Why do 2:16 slouches even bother running
Sorry, it will be a NOP reunion:
1.Rupp
2.Ritz
3.Puskedra
Wouldn't be surprised if the breakaway and work together.
Oh, man, he's running the 5000, 10000, and marathon?!
He's like the American Zatopek. Amazing. Probably will break 3 ARs in all of them.

I stand corrected, I was one of those who posted he was not going to run. In high insight, it makes sense for him to run.
It will also end up being the Al Sal show, he will treat Ritz and Puskedra like long lost relatives. I can see the photo now of the 3 of them on the podium with Sal hugging them all. Uncles Phil and Parker will be so happy as will counsin Cap. The big bad swoosh wins again.
