We spoke to Hunter's coach today (1/29/16) and have lots of details on Hunter's current fitness. Hunter only took 3 days off after Foot Lockers and Tom Schwartz thinks the record is likely to fall although that's not the goal.
I don’t overtrain him so he’s not mentally or physically overtrained,
Well, Tinman always gives an interesting interview. They guy certainly knows how to coach and brings up a good point...but boy he really has a knack for making it always about himself
Before you all get to excited an Australian 16 year old ran 8:06 tonight in NSW.

Good coach but a really annoying person.
good. it is always nice to have the athletes down in Australia and New Zealand compete with our boys. Mottram and Willis were/are entertaining. Any chance this kid will come run at an American college?
Hunter last year as a junior in hs ran about 8:03-4 equivalent in a 2M, and the Aussies are in their summer now, but I do expect Hunter to run a lot faster this year, maybe low 7:50s. I am going to hedge for today's performance because tinman said that Hunter had the flu just last week.

What makes him annoying? Because he didn\'t give a non-answer full of may the best man win platitudes? Haters gonna hate.
Anyone know if this will be online live somewhere?

Yeah. What's the schedule of events.

Webb ran 3:59 despite only going 8:45 (8:06 3000m equivalent).
We ran his 3:59 in an elite race. He went 8:45 in a blowout against Brannen who got dropped early in the race. If Webb had run elite 3k's indoor and out you'd have seen some crazy times. Without the elite races/comp, 3:53 wouldn't exist.
His coach thought he was in 8:25 shape outdoors. True or not he was probably in record shape at that point.

7:59.33
Thats pretty good
Hunter has done it!! 7:59.33 which crushes Cheserek's 8:05.46 (en route to an 8:39.15 two-mile at the Millrose Games in 2013). The time is also better than Fernande'z official American 3000 outdoor record of 7:59.83 from 2008.
Plus it needs to be remember this is on a flat track. The NCAA conversion of .9885 would convert Hunter's time to 7:53.82. We know you can't use a converted time to a record, but according to the NCAA, Hunter's time today is best 3k/2 miles by an American indoors our out.
The outdoor American HS 2 mile mark belongs to German Fernandez at 8:34.40, which is equivalent to 7:56.24 according to LetsRun.com/John Kellogg conversion. The only mark that today's converted time would trail would be the Lithuanian Lukas Verzbicas's 8:29.46 2 mile, which equates to 7:51.67.
So his coach was right after all. Guess he knows what he's talking about.

7:59 is outside the range I gave, but the flat track puts it inside (6 seconds might be a bit much, though). Look for 3:59 or 4:00.
Great bounce back from the (unwarranted) criticism of his Footlocker win.

Good work
The boy (8:06) is only starting 11th grade in February. At the same meet a 15 year old ran 8:22. Not really surprised by Hunter's 7:59 based on what he did last year.
i know you are but what am i wrote:
I live in Loudoun County (Hunter's county) and can confirm that we did, indeed, receive a significant amount of snow last week. If the meet is outdoors in an area that has not been plowed I am relatively sure that the snow will have a negative effect on his performance. There has been quite a bit of melt off but I still think it is an issue to run through 10+ inches of snow accumulation. Does anybody know if he is planning on using snow shoes? These may prove beneficial.
How does that crow taste, kid?
Doofus
