Also stupid? The idea that a track 10k or one heat and one final track 10k is easier on you than an even-paced all-out half-marathon. You are free to think what you think. I think it is not.
How is a track 10k harder than a half marathon?

I bet you $100 over Paypal he won't. We can let Wejo hold the money.
OP here. I don't have $100 to lose. But if Puskedra makes the team (or even comes close) I'll come back here and publicly eat my words and you can all make fun of me.
Jesus, if we did what the Kenyans did and got our myriad of 63:00-64:15 guys training together we might actually be decent at the marathon.

Ignorant post of the year.
laughing my tail off at all your armchair coaches
Puskedra is going to win the Trials.
Is there anywhere where I can bet on this? Bodog? Bet365? lol
A lot of you are big babies. I'm an old man and 6-7 weeks out I do a 5 mile run then race a 1/2 all out. 18 miles on the day. I'm recovered by the next Friday or Saturday.

But but... runners world told me I have to recover aplenty!

Thanks for IGNORING all the EVIDENCE that he laid out for you and using CAPS SO WE'D GET IT. Now that you've explained it so coherently, I agree that Puskedra would've been better off eating chips and watching football. You win.
Caps or no caps it shouldn't be a big deal for Luke to recover for the Trials.
That's ridiculous that he would run a race in preparation for a race. WTF!
Luke says forget the trials, I'm running Boston for money.
Diego says I'm going to Rio.

We won't need your permission to do that.
WR marathon pace for just half the distance isn't blasting.
I live in Houston and watched the race live. Luke was keeping up with the Kenyans and when they surged to a faster pace Luke seemed to relax and let them go. I could be wrong but he didn't appear to be going all out to me! I think he ran a good effort but not all out.
The hill isn't worth anything. Historically, the Aramco half marathon has a -132 sec, -6 sec/km, (men) race time bias and -104 sec (women) rtb. On a neutral course, everything else being equal (yeah right), puskedra could be expected to run 2 minutes slower. (more.arrs.net/race/202836)And since the trials marathon course has never been used we don't know what sort of bias it may or may not have.

Luke nailed it. A PB, I believe.
This course is fast but it also has a decent hill at mile ~12. Maybe worth a few extra seconds. Can someone chime in?
A 2:10 guy ran a half indicating 2:09 shape.
How is this a problem?
Luke's the man. Did he win any prize money here?

Everyone on this site should be pulling for Luke at the Trials. He is Ritz, Meb and Sell wrapped into one package. It was funny listening to the local Houston reporters explaining that the tall white guy was an American.
If this was any other sport ... I would say that he was telling the rest of the Trials field: you need to run sub 2:10 to beat me.
New Haven 20k all out about a month prior to Chicago where he shocked us all.
A half marathon needs a week recovery. It a long 10k. The guy is going to be fine.
