This situation was easy to anticipate, given Chipotle's slack management and preference for exploiting teen workers (at least here in Warrenton, Va.) The kids are spaced-out and uncommunicative. Watching them make your burrito is an ordeal, because they are unreceptive to requests as they robotically go thru the motions, which leads to poor results--as you stand there and watch and pay.
I've been to other Chipotle's in places like Pittsburgh where employees were totally engaged and excellent. But the management-free "zombie food" model seems to be Chipotle's norm. It's no surprise that sanitation standards slip in such a setting.
And the aphorisms on their food packaging are truly pathetic, as noted writers like Jonathan Franzen and Barbara Kingsolver sell out their reps and intellectual status for easy bucks. We're totally done with the place. Good riddance.
