I don't know if you're ignorant or just asinine, but HCV is very common in old rock stars who did drugs in the 70's or 80's.
How in the hell is Keith Richards still alive at 71 years old? He did every drug there was in the 70's, smoked at least 2 packs since he was 12 years old, and drank like a fish for 50 years.
When he croaks his liver should be a display in the Stones wing of at that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This is the most up-to-date info, which still doesn't confirm 100% what type of cancer:http://www.newsmax.com/Health/Health-News/David-Bowie-death-lung/2016/01/11/id/708995/
This article suggests liver cancer that may have spread from an initial lung cancer. Is there a more current statement out yet?
It is '70s and '80s, not 70's and 80's, ignoramus.

It is likely he knew about the cancer and kept it to himself and his family. he released his last album on Jan 8, two days before passing. And, he made a very Bowieesque music video. Amazing talent, and person, regardless of what the haters say.

Bad,
It had nothing to do with Hep C. Bowie was a smoker. Do the math.

Smoking gave him liver cancer?
The majority of [liver cancer] cases are linked to liver cirrhosis, the term used to describe damage to the organ. Cirrohsis is often caused by heavy drinking for a prolonged time, as well as hepatitis B and C. Damage can also be linked to unhealthy eating which builds up to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Drink most likely. Maybe Hep C. Maybe both since he stated, "I am an alcoholic and cocaine."

It's amusing how no matter what I post, the pieces of shit crawl out of the woodwork. Hello, pieces of shit.
Both the liver and lung can be sites of cancer metastasis. Hep C causes more cases of primary liver cancer than alcohol.
A large majority of IV drug users are infected by Hep C, particularly if they used in the 70's and 80's before much was known about it.
Keith Richards did have Hep C, so he says.
And Keith Richards is still alive with Hep C, so it didn't kill him. Bowie died of liver, not lung, cancer.

Lung cancer often mets to the liver.
We cannot let the David Bowie thread die. No? In order to understand
David Bowie's coda, "Blackstar." We must start at the beginning.
The song below are a few of David Bowie earliest recordings, the last from David, when he was 17 years old. What is interesting about these recordings typically bands (even the Kinks and the Who), would utilize a session guitar like Big "Jim" Sullivan or Jimmy Page. In all of these sessions Bowie uses his own band.
That has been a central point with Bowie's career, he chose who he wanted to work with musically carefully.

Hmmm. Causation or correlation?

Look at these pics:
http://mashable.com/2015/11/05/david-bowie-dress/#9_LT_OTsSkqoBowie's way to success was heavily built on shocking the media with his androgyny and sexuality. The pics may look innocent now, but at the time it was outrageous. He was the first shock rocker, the first punk rocker and the first mainstream rocker who flirted with homosexuality and transsexuality. If you don't think this is a part of why he is still hailed as a superstar by the msm even 30+ year after his greatest days, you should seek help for your bigotry.
Anyway, Bowie wasn't an activist like today's LGBT movement. He did this to shock and to explore different sides of himself. I have no problems with that.

You are dead right and insightful. He kicked off a trend that was picked up by the likes of Madonna, Marilyn Manson, 80s Glam Rockers, the New York Dolls, and now Lady GaGa. Like him or not (and I didn't) he knew how to manipulate people, get media attention, and to some extent, have fun doing it. Them drugs (including tobacco) will always catch up to ya's unless you're Keith Richards; his gene pool has makes him immortal.
I'm not sure if you think 1971 is "today", or if you're admitting you were wrong. Either way, I was right.
Interesting post, and I've been a huge Bowie fan since the early 70's, but Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Arthur Brown, Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, and even Little Richard (to a certain extent) predate Bowie for "shock rock" value and/or androgynous imagery. But I hear where you coming from: Bowie was more aggressive in pushing those particular envelopes and did so arguably, with more abandon with the possible exception of Iggy. Its not surprising to me they would later collaborate on various albums and projects.
