A. That's not rare.
B. Bowie could write and sing, but he wasn't known much for playing an instrument.

RIP Goblin King.
I'm not normally saddened by the death of people I've never met but Bowie was a particularly special artist and someone who just seemed to live life to the full in the most charismatic, individual way possible.
He'll definitely live on through all of the amazing records he made. In fact, I'm off now to listen to Hunky Dory:

I've made some breakfast and coffee

Bowie played a crap ton of 12-string guitar on his early live recordings. He also played sax on his records as well as keyboards.
I agree that he's not a guitar god of any sort but he did play quite a few instruments.

Any rock star who can sing is rare.
I presume you've never seen any of his videos where he played guitar, sax, keyboard and piano. Sure he was not a virtuoso on any instrument but then he didn't need to be when he had so many other strings to his bow(ie) - boom!

Um, ever hear of the skin flute?
RIP Bowie

69 is a ripe old age for a promiscuous rock star with drug issues. At least he got a dimorphic spider named after him.
Bowie was a rare rock star who could write music, play instruments AND sing.
Music today just SUCKS!

Predict the Thin White Dukes 5k. Pretty good I would think.
RIP another of my heroes goes. While I did not like some of his music, he was a genuine innovator and one of the few who, by reinvention, appealed to more than one generation.
Bowie with Freddie Mercury and Queen: Under Pressure.
The story about how the two collaborate is interesting. They wrote and sung separately, then tried to put the two parts together. An epic battle ensued as Bowie tried to get more of his influence into the song. The end result is a great song.
I know when to stay in

This is very much the way I feel. The gestalt of the entertainer David Bowie was the attraction.
I remember when my brother bought his first Bowie album, Diamond Dogs, around 1982, several years after it was released. He was around 15 and I was ten. We had always listened to the Beach Boys, Elvis, and other tame stuff and then he bought Bowie. What a weird album to a ten year old in 1981, but when I read 1984 for school a few years later I returned to Diamond Dogs and thought it was kind of cool. That was when Let's Dance, China Girl, and Modern Love came out and Bowie seemed to go mainstream and everyone thought he was cool. Now I like digging into his older stuff.
If you get a chance, I encourage you to watch Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence.
I thought it was a hoax until I read the article.
Damn. Cancer?
He just had his birthday and released his Black Star album, while the sequel of his "Man who fell to earth" is on a limited run on Broadway.
How sad. Rest in peace.

Please link all the isolated voice tracks of rock singers who can sing like this:
https://www.queerty.com/rip-david-bowie-heres-his-isolated-vocal-track-from-under-pressure-with-freddie-mercury-20160111Crazy how much I've thought about this today. David Bowie was the first rock star ever I became a fan of. I bought all his records and played them over and over again for years.
I realize that a part of my life died today. And I didn't know that part was so important. Playing his old songs on youtube still gives me the goosebumps.
Thanks for everything, David.
When Mr. Bowie was at the Richfield Coliseum, April 1978, Heroes tour, I don't remember him playing guitar on stage.
Highlight of the concert: Heroes and TVC15
