Every world distance record ever run was done with support of PEDs. It's all a matter of degree and what one considers an illegal performance enhancer. Would I love to see all runners compete in every race without any PEDs? Sure, but it's just not realistic.

It's also amazing how people have these runner faves who they have never been in the same state with, yet they are 100% certain that the runner has never used PEDs. Remember, LA never tested positive, unless you count one sketchy test from 1999.

Farah always comes out on top too, because he means too much to the sport's bank accout. Even though he lost, the narrative works out perfectly. He is now "very angry" and will show up in ridiculous form all because he was "determined to train even harder." He will then probably run some ridiculous time (< 7:27) and his unwavering fans will think "see I knew he could do it." All of the UK will essentially coronate him once again, and the regimen will continue unabated. The whole thing is just silly.

7:24.90 is the time to beat and only twice has that time been bettered outdoors (Komen's 7:20 and El G's 7:23) ... although there have been a few low-7:25s.

I wonder how his indoor record holds up compared to the outdoor? Outdoors he broke Morceli's mark by nearly 4.5 seconds and since no one has gotten closer than 2+ seconds.

Indoors he broke Geb's mark by 1.25 seconds and since no one has been within almost 2 seconds (Geb with 7:26.80 the next year).

Bekele never even broke 7:30 indoors (although his 8:04 2-mile was worth it I'd think).

Alamirew did run 7:27.8 a few years back, so if in best form you'd think Farah could at least better that by a bit ... but 7:24 is a long ways still.

I was interested to see the progression of the indoor record ... as far as I could tell Kiptanui ran 7:35 in '95, then Geb 7:30 in '96, Geb again with a 7:26 in '98, then Komen the 7:24 in '98 (just 11 days later)

Also Komen ran 7:27.93 on 1 Feb, the WR on 6 Feb, then a 12:51 (also a WR at the time) on 19 Feb ... amazing.

Nope.. 10000 ft altitude just happens to be an amazing thing for training

mo has two 328 1500m.

i can see mo with his A game going out in 338 ish first 1500, then and if there is pacing at that point, he has a shot.

Ok, and that means what? That he can somehow run a WR 3K? El G couldn't come close to this record and would crush Farah in a 1500m so why would Farah be able to have a shot? If he beats Alamirew's mark of 7:27 I will be astonished.

Only person who was in the best shape to break komen's indoor 3000m record was Yenew Alamirew. Almost 5 years ago, he ran 7:27.80 at Sparkassen, with poor pacing and a 25.8 last 200m. Plenty of gas left in the tank at the end of the race.

That day he was good for 7:23 high- 7:24 low. Choge who came second was probably 7:25. Mo will not break the record, might run 7:27-8.

I'll call 7:25. He won't break the record, but will beat Geb's time which will fuel more intense discussion about his place in history.

Why would you assume that Mo could better Alamirew's time when Alamirew has a far better 3000m and 5000m pb? Not being a smart ass, just wondering. Mo has proven that he's great at winning but he's not proven that he's great at going for times/records or being able to push the pace to get there.

That record is on another planet from all other indoor world records. Farah's 8:03 2 mile is nowhere near the caliber of a 7:24 3k. I think he'd be lucky to break 7:30.
