That is my question. I am beyond done with this profession. It's few charms have worn off. The bureaucracy is nauseating. Common Core is an exercise in brain rot. We educate teachers in this country about as well as we educate fast food workers. Most of my 8th graders are more intelligent than my colleagues.
At the same time, I will miss some of the perks of the job--the holidays, summer vacation, and salary is not bad in my state. I am an altruist at heart. I do believe one's life should be spend having a positive impact (even if that impact is tangential). I want to remain coaching.
I just cannot teach adolescents anymore. I'm not even sure what a modern education should be. You would think that with 11 years experience in public, private and charter schools and an Ivy League degree I would be able to answer this question. I cannot.
I figure since there are a great many teachers on this board, there would be some solid ideas about where to go and what to do next.
I am averse to anything that involves staring at a screen all day.
