Driver indicted in Cameron Bean's hit-and-run death

Excellent news, because until prosecutors take killings of runners and pedestrians seriously, drivers will continue to be careless or even reckless around us. This doesn't bring back Cameron Bean or the Running Man or the countless others killed by cars but it is a good step.

While I agree with your premise, we need to remember that Running Man was running in the dark and fog on the wrong side of a busy road without any reflective gear or lights. The driver did not leave the scene and is likely going through hell right now.

I am talking about Running Man, not Bean. I am glad the driver was indicted in Bean's case.

The Running Man and Bean case were separate incidents. Bean's death was a result of terrible driving (she crossed the road to hit him!) and then fled the scene as well, plus made up a story that she thought she hit a deer. She deserved to be indicted. The Running Man incident was an unfortunate event, where he should not have been running in that dangerous area of road and I feel sorry for the driver who hit him because he or she has to deal with the stigma.

Looks like it cost the driver 75k? It says a 75k bond was posted soon after she was arrested.

Well, it hasn't really cost anyone $75K yet. The court is just holding that amount, I'm guessing deposited by a bail bondsman. At this point she is likely out a $7,500 fee to the bondsman, unless she had the $75K in cash herself...

running man's "outfit" was highly reflective. Drivers need to be cautious and always look for pedestrians. No one is going through hell right now like running man.

Most importantly to any runner on this thread, BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!!!!!

Think about how many idiots you know, they're all out driving 2 ton cars while you're running!

Too late, people are so addicted to their phones that no threat of prosecution will make any difference. Not too long ago on the highway I (cautiously) passed a woman who was driving at erratic speeds, weaving in her lane, clearly texting. When she passed me back, I looked over and her head was pointed straight down at her lap. Yes it has come to this, they don't even pretend to watch the road.

I got a dash cam recently and, frankly, a primary motivation was the inane behavior of peds and cyclists. Its not always drivers.

However, I rarely encounter runners behaving badly.

Maybe, if you're driving in the dark and fog on a dangerous road, you should slow down and pay attention, no? If she couldn't see a man running on the shoulder she couldn't see a child crossing the street, a dog, a deer, a cop directing traffic, a fallen tree, etc. You can't just speed down the road blind and assume there'll always be a clear path ahead. It's all good though, since she didn't leave the scene she won't even get a traffic ticket for killing a man.

I don't blame the victims for being hit but you have to admit they took unnecessary chances with their lives. If you run 100 mpw on narrow two-lane roads for 20+ years then you are on the wrong side of statistics. Eventually there is going to be an accident.

There is no right or wrong. There is safe. Run in areas where you are not sharing a path with cars.

Gotta agree. It's a tragedy when someone gets hit and I'm glad when drivers are held accountable. That being said, others need to realize how terrible most drivers really are. And we need to run/walk/ride accordingly.

Just yesterday I drove past a cyclist riding on the edge of the road, in the dark, with his head phones on. His bike had no lights and wasn't wearing any reflective gear. He was wearing his helmet (and local bike club outfit), but still. How stupid can you be? Stop thinking these tragedies can't happen to you.

Be extra cautious. Don't think these drivers see you just because you see them. And if you are the one who is driving, stay off your effing phone.
