The University of Montana administration came over the top of the head coach and told him that their distance coach needed to go.
The facts:
Collin Fehr (head xc coach) snagged a gem of a recruit in Makena Morely, a footlocker finalist and a top US recruit.
Relationship between coach and athlete is good with no red flags. (Sources close to program)
In her freshman year, Morely wins the Big Sky conference championship, defeating many outstanding individual, and qualifies for Nationals with an 82nd place finish.
Post Nationals, Morely ceases to speak or have any contact with head coach, rumors swirl regarding transfer.....
Morely informs coach she is going to transfer due to not liking him as a coach. (Direct from coaches mouth)
Coach is blindsided.
There were no immoral shenanigans involved.
Alumni, boosters, and Morely supporters deliver incredible pressure to AD asking for Coach Fehr's job.
Admin. Go over the head of head track coach and fire Coach Fehr.
Ok, granted this is a young coach (2nd yr I believe) and his team overall did not do well at all, but he did get a blue chip recruit and did coach that talent to what I would consider an "acceptable" level. (Conference champ and nationals qualifier) How do you fire a guy mid season, potentially ruin his career based off pressure from a booster of a non-revenue generating sport? This is not the first time a coach at UM had a short stay.....red flags everywhere here.
