The whole reason he has such a good shot is precisely because the US has so few truly world class athletes to beat to make the team in the distance events. Unlike, for example, Kenya, where he'd be just another face in the crowd.

he might have a shot in the 10 just because so many fewer people care.
Here are the contenders:
witt
true
hill
jenkins
rupp
mead
lagat
heath
estrada
geoghwhatever
masters
derrick
lomong
chelanga
bumby
and probably another couple new americans
does chez finish top 3 in the 5 or 10? Odds are against it but in the 10 it is possible anyway.

Is that right? It's from IAAF. Not exactly OG team level.
If those are right, I severely doubt he can be top 3 in either event unless they run 14 flat/29 flat and then luck will play a role.
2015 USA: 5000 in 13:50, 10000 in 28:11*.
2014 USA: 5000 in 13:31*, 10000 in 28:12*.
2013 USA: 5000 in 14:54*, 10000 in 28:47*.
2012 USA: 5000 in 13:22*, 10000 in 27:25*.
2011 USA: 5000 in 13:23*, 10000 in 28:38*.
2010 USA: 5000 in 13:54*, 10000 in 28:59*.
2009 USA: 5000 in 13:20, 10000 in 27:52*.
2008 USA: 5000 in 13:27*, 10000 in 28:41.
There you go, 8 years of results at USAs. Those with an asterisk won by either Bernard Lagat for the 5000 (except for the one that Rupp won), asterisks in the 10000 by Rupp.
So out of 16 events, only 3 did not have Rupp or Lagat win. I think we can all agree that Lagat not likely to do it again. Rupp probably so. The times have never been historically fast, except for the 10000 in 2012.
Ches is fully capable of the 5000 times, and we already know he can probably kick in 51 off a 13:20 pace. He could probably run 27:30 too, and while maybe that won't win, hard to believe he couldn't get top 3. It's never happened as a matter of fact.
YOU New Jersey trolls SUCK
All of this discussion is irrelevant. He won't get his US citizenship in 2016.
Good shot in the 5000. 10K maybe. 1500 no chance at all.
Don't underestimate Rupp.
I'd be surprised if Ches was eligible so quick.
Xenophobes are morons. Probably racist too.

There aren't any xenophobic or racist comments in this thread. In fact there really are not that many xenophobes out there in general despite what the libparrots think.
True and Geowhatever both are Mainers.
There is Xenophobic stuff in this thread.
Go watch some more Fox News and let them tell you what to think. It's so easy, isn't it?
