Who knew?

Spitting on a track is disrectful and inconsiderate. People sometimes eat off tracks, change their babies there, or nap there. Think, man!

My wife actually has to breast feed our little 8 month old baby on the track during my practices. If I ever saw someone disrespecting my kid like that, the last thing they'd be worrying about is whether they can continue doing workouts there.
If you have to spit or snot during an interval indoors, pull your shirt away from your chest and do it on your chest, inside the shirt.
Between intervals, do it in the trash can (or your chest again, if you like).
spitting on an indoor track is a no no, because there is nothing to wash it away and they tend to be more slippery as well.
Also, spitting in drinking fountains isn't a nice practice either despite the fact it was suggested above.
Isn't this what the other compression sock is for?
While at Stanford Vin Lananna also had a thing against spitting on the outdoor track. To him it was disrespectful and gross. If you wanted to be on the team you didn't do it. Or at least around him.

In 1966 I was at the Boston Gardens and saw the New Zealander Barry McGee let out a tremendous gob of spit during a race. I never thought ill of him for that, as he was racing real hard. Still, it was a fairly gross sight, that I can't unsee even now, nearly 50 years later.
Can you describe the spit more? Was the solidified gooey kind or did it have more of a lubricating moistness to it?

Different strokes for different folks. You sound like the perfect candidate for a cold shower.

I want to make sure your family is safe.
Where and when does this happen?
Be a man, SWALLOW IT.
Exactly! A real man always swallows :)

By the head coach at some awful D3 school.
He stated (the head coach) "if you spit on the track again, you won't be allowed back" and then when we didn't acknowledge him he stated it again, and I replied, we got it dude.
Should i be as pissed about this as I am?

This is funny. Did you really expect people to back you up on this?
An indoor track is like any indoor facility. Do you spit on basketball/volleyball courts? There is no rain or direct evaporation to wash it up, and it also shows no class.
I have yet to meet a coach who allows open spitting on their indoor tracks dude, you seriously are funny.
We weren't allowed to spit on our indoor track during college. Our coach made us use the water fountain.
I'm gonna stand with the crowds on this one. It's an indoor facility. You shouldn't spit. On an outdoor track, who cares? It's outside, the rain will clean it up and plenty of nasty stuff ends up on the track anyway. That being said, it's probably best that you lean over and spit in the infield.
