nope, never. (shakes head, brings up training log of every good kenyan ever, plus ritz)
If he can run that last 10k well, he'll be a shoe in for top 3 at the trials. And guys seldom run that long that pace because 1) its hard, 2) an effort that long takes forever to recover from.
I shot a man in Renojust to watch him die. That was pretty much the same.

a month earlier, he ran 16M at 4:53. I assume this is at altitude. The 20M at 4:55 equates to just under 2:09 pace. If you can run that pace for 20M, especially at altitude, you should absolutely be able to handle that pace for a marathon.

unless you don't have any experience with 26 miles and your background is 99% in 3k-10k with one or two half marathons thrown in there.
doing quick 20 milers doesn't mean too much from inexperienced marathoners. for example, I follow Josh Harris (former beer mile WR holder, 4:55 PR) on Strava, and he did many fast long runs with 15-20+ miles at 2:13-2:15 marathon pace, but he couldn't handle even 2:18 pace in the race.
Remember the hype with Brenda Martinez's workouts? Vigilantes always are more impressive on the workout log than the results.
(That's not to say Estrada or Martinez aren't putting up incredible race results, just that their training is a level above those results)
Ummm, no. It just means that you don't have a grasp on the quality of workouts that other pros do.
Yes, but what did he run the first 30km in and what pace in minutes per km?
This is not a new video game right? He is another guy who does work out videos but produces ho hum results when it counts.
Others may be skeptical, but I am impressed. I wondered what he had been doing for all those years after CHiPs, and now I know. It will be great to see him once again on the streets and highways of LA, in just a couple of months!
There's a reason people say 20 miles is the halfway point of a marathon. I've run plenty of 20 milers at a pace 30 sec per mile faster than my marathon PR in the midst of a heavy training week. Doesn't predict sh1t. For a guy with no experience at the distance and coming from a 5k background, if he went out at 2:09 pace I'll predict he'd blow up around mile 21 and finish around 2:18.

If that's the case then either you're massively under performing in the marathon, or you haven't raced a marathon in a while.

Yeah, but have you ever done a 5 Mile Tempo at 5k pace?

I like to do this, too. Usually I run 20 miles at 4:10 pace in training. It makes you strong. Vry good session but... of course... not impressive at all. I split like sub 55 minutes for the half in those runs... but whatever... jus some tempo work.

Is Diego running US marathon trials? Yes, I know I'm totally uninformed...
Yes sir.

Diego is no joke. He's been in some big races. He's already been an Olympian. He is not afraid of a big stage. It will be interesting to watch him put together a strong final 10km because you know he can be a front-runner. I would not want Estrada with me at 35km to go come Los Angeles.
Did he win?
I thought you aren't supposed to race your workouts
