Actually he won't leave her, even for love.
Did you know Meat did a 3.10 marathon in 2010 for charity. Saw it on tv and he was a sweaty mess at the end, good man!!
1. "forget the way you feel right now"
2. "forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight"
3. "do it better than I do it with you"
4. "stop dreaming of you every night of my life"

We all know what happened when Elton John started writing his own songs... we got the disgraceful fvcking rewrite of Candle in the Wind dedicated to Princess Diana. Taupin must have vomited in his tea when he heard that one.
I always laugh when I look at the track listing for Elton John "greatest hits" albums. A bunch of great Bernie Taupin songs and a few Elton John stinkers. Elton could perform like a muthafvcka, though, and so could Meatloaf!

Funny you say that. I just came across the following in an article about he anniversary of Lennon's death:
Doing these songs live is another matter, for those who knew Lennon. Elton John, in the liner notes to a boxed set, said of “Empty Garden,†his tribute to his friend: “When John died, it really did affect me a lot. I still can’t believe sometimes that he’s not actually there. I was living in Paris at the time, and not going through a particularly good period in my life. I was very depressed, and I wrote an instrumental called 'The Man Who Never Died’… And Taupin wrote 'Empty Garden.’ I was so impressed with mine, but when Bernie came up with the lyrics for 'Empty Garden,’ I didn’t think anyone would be able to say anything without being clumsy or cheesy… I performed it once on a tour, and I won’t again. I find it very hard to sing. It upsets me to sing that song.â€

Jim Steinman did. Meat Loaf couldn't write his own name.
Well I didn't say Meat Loaf wrote it, I only said "dude."
his name was Meat Loaf.
Bruno Mars was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for love. So I'm not impressed with Meatloaf adding all these stipulations as to what he wouldn't do for love. I bet Meatloaf wouldn't catch a grenade or jump in front of a train. Bruno's the man.
Just listen:
-----------------
What you don't understand is
I'd catch a grenade for ya
Throw my hand on a blade for ya
I'd jump in front of a train for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya
oh oh oh oh oh
I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight right through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby

I think what Meat Loaf wouldn't do for love was run around a crowded shopping mall wearing only a pink tutu whilst chugging from a bucket of diarrhea.

So what you're saying is that she'd do ATM, just not with you.

Yeah, I really don't get why people act like this is some kind of mystery. If someone told you "I'll never forget the way you feel right now. No, I won't do that," would you be like "WTF does he/she mean by 'that'"?

Once a liar, always a liar... She knew that if he would lie for her, he'd also lie to her. He ruined it with that line. It was over before it even began. Poor guy.
I don't care, about the lyric, the guitar solo is awesome.

Ahem, Meatloaf is a dude singing the verse in question. He said he wouldn't take ass-2-mouth. Meaning a strap-on up his bum and then into his mouth.

Umm... No! Those aren't the things. You have to listen all the way till the end. The girl says what she wants him to do and he says he will do that. Then she says what negative things she expects him to do as the relationship progress and he says he won't do that. Here look at the lyrics...
[Girl:]
Will you cater to every fantasy I got?
Will you hose me down with holy water, if I get too hot?
Will you take me places I've never known?
[Boy:]
I can do that
Oh no, I can do that
[Girl:]
After a while you'll forget everything
It was a brief interlude and a midsummer night's fling
And you'll see that it's time to move on
[Boy:]
I won't do that
I won't do that
[Girl:]
I know the territory, I've been around
It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down
Sooner or later you'll be screwing around
[Boy:]
I won't do that
No, I won't do that

It was revealed. You just have to listen to the song. Everytime he says "But I won't do that", its in response to the previous verse. "And I'll never forget the way you feel right now, oh no, no way", then he goes to say "I would do anything for love..." yadda yadda. Hes saying he would do anything for love, but he will never forget the way she feels right now.
That being said, I feel a revised version of the song with "AND I won't do that" is in order. The whole double negative thing, too, now has me thinking the entire line could just be removed. Sounds like he WOULD do anything for love.
That makes total sense now that you point it out. Yet somehow, I never realized he was referring to each verse... I thought he was saying he would do those things, yes, but he wouldn't do THAT.
So, because I didn't know, I just joked that it was cunnilingus.
Minor thread hijack, but could ya'll help an early 80's child understand the Meatloaf phenomenon?
"Anything for Love" was my first exposure to Mr. Loaf, and I thought the song was cool (even if I was too young to really appreciate it)...but in the MTV era, here was this dude who wasn't nearly attractive enough to be on camera with a whole lotta verbratta just crushing it, and I got the sense that I didn't appreciate him nearly as much as I was supposed to...
I later understood that Bat Outta Hell II (?) was something of a comeback for him, but when did reach status of being mentioned in the same paragraph as Sir Elton John? (That is not meant to be snarky or rhetorical, as he probably DOES belong in the same sentence, but was it during his first or second go-round?)
I sent straight from Garth Brooks to Aerosmith to Nirvana and Pearl Jam, as a kid, so understand that my musical tastes were not as well rounded as they could have been, either, lol
His first go around. The second was just gravy. Which he ate up.
